I've been helping my friend out for the last few weeks - his front garden was a very steep upward slope so he had a retaining wall built close to the house, and we've levelled off the rest. That involved digging 4 post holes into solid slate (we could have done with a large core drill) but we got there eventually to do a smaller retainer made from posts and concrete gravel boards.

We are now on the back garden, same deal but bigger. A builder has done a 7ft high retaining wall with sides, so we are now transporting bags of soil/hardcore to fill up the pit which looks more like a swimming pool. Luckily there were 3 randomly placed concrete slabs which we have broken up, so that is currently filling up most of the level before we put soil down.
My word that sounds like hard heavy work,i advise plenty of drink stops hydration breaks ie World Cup style.

Well an Angel appeared in the guise of my daughter, popped in to see the two old men in her life.i asked if she would take me to the local hardware store, yes so ,with the sun out and a great drying day,it's finished ,it got two coats of linseed oil.£30's worth, four bottles, mind you it's the first time in three years it's had some care.£10 per year,it is a lovely dark shade of brown.I then sorted out some gravel, just had a shower and all is well here in Meanwood, coming to the end of my single care duties, next task is tea.

Over the past few days I've repaired the conservatory, including adding new wood, then painted it all. And added an external power cable through the conservatory frame in the process.

Also, I've taken out damaged beams and a couple of damaged panels from the decking, replaced / repaired those, then painted it. Although the colour wasn't the one I thought I ordered it's contemporary and a 'special order' (Cuprinol City Stone, rather than the Silver Birch I thought I'd ordered, which is what we had). It looks nice to me.

Oh, and I've painted the new hammock frame and also the love seat we have. Another bench will get teak oil shortly.

Havnt done much around the house for the last 6 months..(and more while my wife was ill)..the bank account is suddenly taking a little hit while start again.
Today, removed the original 60 year (ish) old council fence slats and replaced with pressure treated, relatively heavy duty fence panels. Screwed them straight into the existing very heavy duty posts and rails.
New shed at some stage soon, that'll be two or three 'large' i suspect but the old one is around 25 years old and done its work well.

Boiler was belatedly serviced a couple weeks ago. Sometimes you cant give money away  the guy that fitted it all around 3 years ago did us a really fairly good price then (mate of our sons who's in the trade himself) so I offered to pay full price for the service. 'No, its ok, I will do a discount for you'
Ah well, I offered

Lots to do, beginning to get the desire to get stuck in...

The downstairs office has been painted this week - two-tone Farrow and Ball as requested by SWMBO - with other bits done.

It was looking very marked and is a room I use a lot, so it's a decent re-fresh which brings the whole house up-to-date.
