Shopping around for best deal I note that all comparison sites ask.........
A. Do you have a burglar alarm.
B. Is it regularly seviced/maintained by a recognised/approved company.

Years ago I read that if you tell them that yes you do have one but no it's not serviced then the price jumps up ie you are better off just saying you do not have one.

Does anyone know if my memory is correct?

BTW I have a quote from a recognised name that is over £200.00 cheaper that the present company. I spoke to the present company and they offered just £25 less than their present quote.

Don't know, never had an alarm. Although there's a dummy box on the house that has been there since I moved in about 23 years ago!

Just go with the new quote. No need to be loyal if the terms are the same! I'm with MBNA (Lloyds) and so now is my mum fwiw

I've a 'proper' ADT alarm, so yes to both.

The question filters out cheap stuff like alarms from Verisure (fitted with glue or sticky pads by a salesman and not an engineer), Ring (fitted by the customer) or Simplisafe (either) and which have no service back up. It's rubbish really.

As to the question, I'd imagine the answer is "no" but you never quite know what sort of fanciful fiction an insurer will come up with to justify a price hike.

Certainly the old wives tale that "if you have an alarm you're telling the world you have something worth stealing and youll be more likely to get burgled" is nonsense.

Well it certainly held true for the nasty neighbours, thing is they didn't have anything worth stealing, crappy old television and a video recorder that once graced the Ark was the extent of their 'entertainment system' and no display cases full of silver/porcelain, I think the only antique they had was the chip fryer (it certainly smelt 'antique' every friday)
Don't think I'm being 'harsh' on them............................They were horrible people.

Ditto.

Just switched to MBNA who quoted £327 vs renewal quote from Swiftsure £535 for virtually identical cover.

NB: for anyone looking into MBNA they only quote via comparison sites - we used GoCompare.
