Heart goes out to all those involved, what a horrific accident.
These things can take time to digest, so take it easy mate.

That one is going to stay with you for a long time ! It sounds like there's nothing you could have done so don't start dwelling on what ifs .

Keith it's always dreadful seeing something like that. I always tell witnesses to find a friend and have a chat and I always tell them there was absolutely nothing they could have done to change what happened. You may have lots of odd and strange feelings well up in the next few days, this is entirely normal as is thinking about the family. However don't dwell on them, you feeling bad for them won't change what has happen.

can i just ask, was it the actual incident that was witnessed, or did you come upon the scene afterwards? im only asking coz it reads as though the car was already burnt out by which time the collision would have already happened some time earlier.

i have no wish to cheapen the shock and sadness, just to understand the level of impact it might have on you, i mean i have been in cars going past some pretty grim aftermaths but it doesnt stay with me like it would if i had actually witnessed the incident as it happened.

Shocking thing to see. Talk with friends. I saw a young lad on the floor last week, been run over by a car. He looked alive, checked news, nothing. Probably had a glance from a car. Sh## happens and it is, unfortunately, LIFE. The longer we live, the more we see. It's not good, but it's the way it is. We are pretty much protected these days from really messy stuff.

My missus hates me riding. It only comes out after an accident, but she drags it up all the time. But, I am much fitter than the average 45 year old but carry a few battle scars/injuries - other family members sport some serious heart issues and other health issues.

Life is risky. Go and chat

Very sad for the families involved. Sorry to hear you witnessed this, but life is sadly filled with death, and most deaths are not of the peaceful sort.

Keep your chin up Keith.
on average 3,400 human beings, all with dreams and ambitions, all loved dearly by someone are killed every day on the worlds roads. And another third of a million, every single day will suffer life changing injuries.
Hopefully some day society will wake the hell up and realise that the convenience of personal motor ownership is not worth the cost in human lives and life changing injuries.

Sometimes I have to drive. I am much more aware on the bike of how close drivers come to accidents and they don't even realise it. Back wheels clipping islands, hubcaps flying off, sudden stops that only just make it. It doesn't help out the OP, I'm just thinking that cyclists have a closer connection to the scary reality of traffic.
