I met my better half in a night club , I knew her sister from school, she suddenly became aware of me one night, she says, after I stopped her boyfriend from getting beat up in the club (he got into fights alot apparently, he eventually went down for arson).Nice lad !

A few weekends later (boyfriendless) ,we talked and had a laugh a dance and that was it that night.

The following week I was with a gang of lads outside, sitting on the bonnet of a car having a chat , when she attacked me ,knocking me off the car onto the floor with her lips glued to mine (subtle),I got the message , we've been together now for 18 years !

LOL, he's actually what my mother would call "intelligently stupid" and to be fair he has stopped smoking. If he ever asks me to marry him, I'm going to have to double barrel my surname though!

There's hope for us all then!!!!

To be fair, I think Plax meant he was a bit slow on picking up that she was interested. Most blokes eventually notice something like that if they're beaten around the head with it for long enough. On a good day, at least...

I first met Mrs Noodley in 1992 when she was 'in a relationship' with someone I worked with. I walked into my local and my colleague was there with her. I spoke to him and sat down for a pint, and spoke to her for a bit when he was at the bar. At this point I thought 'Christ he's a lucky bugger', had a chat and left. I spoke to him on the Monday and ask who she was, and he tells me she works for the same employer as us but in a different area.

Roll on a few years, I start a relationship with someone else who also works for the same employer. We are not too serious but she invites me along to a night out and says some of her friends will be there. I go along. Mrs Noodley, and we spend the night speaking and having a laugh...I ask her if she's still in a relationship with my colleague and she says 'no', but I asked it as a general question rather than a 'searching' question. We all end up back at Mrs Noodley's flat and I get 'introduced' to her cats. One of them bites me. A lot. I spend the night speaking to her as my girlfriend falls asleep.

Another few months roll on and I get transferred to the same location as Mrs Noodley. The relationship with her friend 'cools' and we drift. Mrs Noodley and I get on really well. I miss all the clues. A party is arranged, and all Mrs Noodley's friends are told this is my "last chance".

By this time I am besotted, but think she is well out of my league. And I mean 'big style' out of my league. We are speaking me being 'Forres Mechanics' and her being "Real Madrid"...

The party is held, she speaks to me. She asks if I like her. I say something along the lines of "fhnghghgh" and she walks away.....I grab her hand. And pull her back towards me and give her a kiss. She says "why didn't you do that months ago?"

That was 15 years ago. I eventually became friends with her cats, I would even go as far as saying I loved them as much as she did. Both have now died. We now have 2 children, 1 dog, 4 cats and a horse.

She is still well out of my league.

But she seems to like me. As do all our pets....but I'm not sure about the kids.

Seeing as this thread is going so well and everybody's enjoying it so much I think I'll carry on with my story!

Mrs RR and I eventually met at the hotel in Manchester where she was staying on business. It all went well so we agreed to go to the Lakes for a weekend. We drove up to Patterdale but couldn't find a single hotel or B&B free so opted to camp instead as I'd brought all the gear along. However the campsite was full of ghastly fat pink sweaty oafs having barbecues and drinking lager, it being mid holidays and sunny. So we defaulted to the third option, proper camping, which had been my intention all along. I packed a quick rucsac with small tent, cooker and some pasta and sauce and a bottle of white wine and gave her a sleeping bag to carry and we set off up to Angle Tarn.

The little peninsula on the left was perfect for camping so within a few minutes I'd got the tent up and we were frolicking in the tarn, stark naked. When the first kiss happened I swear I could actually hear a symphony orchestra playing on the bank. For the rest of the evening we drank wine chilled in the tarn and chatted while the sun set and the stars came out. To this day I can't believe she did that because she never camps now and is always frozen!

I entered a predominantly female profession (nursing) in 1979. I met both of my wives at work. (These were consecutive and not concurrent I hasten to add)

When I first started as a Student Nurse I was the only male in an intake of 60! Over the next 15 years I spent most of my working days in female orientated working environments so its little wonder that all of my relationships were in some way connected to it.

I then moved on to Social Work - well you cant enjoy yourself for ever...........

Met Mrs Sharky at the first place I got a proper job at after finishing Uni. She was the PA to the Vice Principal, and I was a lowly Marketing Assistant.

I seemed to find many excuses to go into the main office where she and 3 others worked, and was always chatting to her when she was on the switchboard at the enrolment nights (it was a College)... but never managed to build up the courage to ask her out.

One evening after an enrolment session had finished we were chatting and walked outside as the college was closing up. It started pi**ing it down so we sat in her car for a bit talking. When it stopped raining I got out and walked home and she drove off. I was kicking myself.

Later that night I finally bit the bullet and rang her home (having found out her address from the College's computer system as she had done a course there recently - I know, stalking and Data Protection lawbreaking has its uses!!) and her Dad answered. I asked to speak to her but didn't say who was calling... we then chatted for a bit before she clicked who it was and started asking questions about how I knew where she lived etc. (alarm bells started to ring that she may call the Police!! ;) ).

She transferred to the phone in her parents' room so we could carry on talking while the rest of her family watched TV (she still lived with her folks) and then when they all went to bed she had to transfer back downstairs to the main phone again.... we'd been on the phone for about an hour and a quarter by this point. I finally got round to asking her out and she admitted that she didn't have a clue that I was interested in her, but accepted anyway.

We went 10 pin bowling and then she came back to mine where we stayed up talking until about 2am before she went home.

We kept our relationship secret at work as there were far too many gossips there. 9 months later they found out about us just as I was leaving to move back down to Derby for a new job. This was all in 1995

We saw each other every weekend, and phoned every night for nearly 2 years before I got a job back in Manchester and moved in with her parents for 6 months before we found our own place. We finally married 7 years ago after being together for 7 years (you can't rush these things!!) and now have 2 beautiful Daughters too.

Life is good!
