It depends how old they are? I have thousands of posts from years ago that are now locked but ones in the last year or so can be edited.

There's a time cutoff, beyond which older posts can't be edited. I think it's a year?
The imperial century a month challenge requires repeatedly editing your initial post (at least it did when I was in it) and the mods had to do a special tweak to keep posts editable. (Which suggests the limit was maybe less than a year)

I just did a quick check. Early 2023 posts were locked, later ones were okay, so editable for 2.5 years?

I thought that it might be a longer edit time for threads that I had started but I found one just over a year old which I can't edit.

I just tried some random experimentation. I can find posts just over a year old that I can't edit, and yet I was allowed to edit this post from 2019

I too fail to see a pattern. But I haven't looked very hard.
Edit: The 2019 post was in the imperial century a month challenge, which has editing specifically allowed. I think the limit is 1 year but there are exceptions, like the challenge threads.
