Has anyone tried the sachets from Aldi.

Farkin ell - nom nom. I had my first one last Thursday (with syrup). The thought of the taste in my head for 2 days. No joke. Lurvely. Maybe they had taken @McWobble s advice.

I now have 3 x 8 sachets stuck in my drawer at work. I may consider emptying it out in 3 lines on my desk and using a rolled up fiver to dust em up.

I part oats, 1 part water, 1 part skimmed milk. Add raisins, mixed seeds (e.g. pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds and sesame seeds). Pinch of (lo-)salt. Spoon of honey. 1 or 2 hot chillies including seeds. Heat and keep stirring until the porridge thickens. Chop a few strawberries and a banana into finished product.

Throw it all away and eat a bacon sandwich!

(Only joking - I don't do bacon sandwiches, and I do make my porridge like that, and love it!)

Some maple syrup for sweetness and taste with smashed up walnut or pecans for texture.
Desiccated coconut sounds like a good idea, must give that a try.
Bit lazy but most often ijust have rolled oats in cold milk with walnuts and a banana.

A sprinkling of demerara sugar for the crunch. Made with water but a bit of warm milk in the bowl. Yummy.
My breakfast every day in winter.

Use quality oats, e.g. Scotts.
50gms porage in large bowl, add 300ml (or gms, it's the same and makes it easy on electronic scale) of milk. Microwave 3 minutes, and jump in shower while that's going on.
Leave porage while getting dressed then add in some cinnamon and/or lyles golden syrup, maple syrup etc. to taste.
Reheat in microwave for about 30 secs to 1 minute, depending how long you left it. Voila.....

Those who think porage is disgusting, are you using cheapo-matic pound shop porage? It's the sweepings off the factory floor and tastes like sh!te.

40g of Scotts Porage Oats with 270g of semi-skimmed milk. Put it in a big plastic bowl on high in a microwave for three and a half minutes. Eat it from the plastic bowl with a big spoon. Wash bowl under tap. None of that scaping stuff off the bottom of ancient iron pots over a peat fire.

Ride bike.

No!

I've tried it several times over the years.

Last time was at a beautiful hotel (can't remember the name but we stayed in a rather splendid suite called The Turret Suite) in Pitlochry - I remember the air was crystal clear.

I digress.

I got talked into trying the real deal one breakfast and it was still disgusting.

Other food from the far north of The Union that falls into my disgusting category are Arbroath Smokies (think salty bonfire) and Haggis which in the heirarchy of all things food, I pitch below dog food.

Porridge brands are most certainly not the same. Despite the fact that they can't spell it, Scott's Original Porage Oats are head and shoulders above the competition.

Purists will tell you that it should be eaten alongside a separate bowl of milk, but it's much more fun to pour the milk carefully around the edge of the bowl to create a sort of floating raft of porridge. If you can spin it around then you've done it right.
