Well, he's come along, cut and pasted his blog entries in to start topics rather than bringing anything original, and all his opening posts have been just a little bit confrontational, in a kind of "This is what I think, and you all disagree but I don't care" way - despite the fact that actually, we don't - there are plenty of Pashley fans, and people to whom the weight of a bike means nothing, but according to him he's fighting a lone battle against our sort, whatever that is.

So is that sufficient reason to try to silence him?

Deliberately argumentative stance, spamming his own blog, and getting stroppy with Admin when asked not to spam his own blog?

I'd say yes, that is sufficient reason. Either bring something to the party, or hit the road!

Just as well no-one else on the forum brings a deliberately argumentative stance then!

Whatever his reasons for posting his blog, are the views not valid? We all "bring something to the party", some more valid/interesting/welcome/relevent than others. However I cannot agree that one is more acceptable than the other.

It's not whether his views are acceptable or not, it's the way he presents them.

I think you'll find that anyone who came along without playing any part in the forum in other people's topics, and just cut and pasted their own opinions, in a confrontational way, would get short shrift. Indeed, there have been others just like that, and they don't tend to last long.

My money is on an increasingly tedious series of flounces and unflounces in order to say "and one more thing....!"

Maybe he's just having a laugh at our expense, which he's perfectly entitled to - we can all do with taking down a peg or two from time to time. Except Rich who needs taking down several pegs.

Just a casual glance at some of the subjects on this website reveals something less than ideal in respect of the manners and erudition of contributors. I'm not suggesting free and frank discussion should be quashed......but three word responses and expletives in the title don't really seem in the spirit of the great values of the wider Cycling family.

Does anyone have any idea as to how we might improve the quality of debate on this site?

Well I would say that if you are looking for debate then his isn't the site (apart from P+L) ... and I'm too scared to go in there as they seem to know how to debate good and proper... and would eat me for breakfast!

The key characteristic of this site for me is that it is friendly rather than its looking for an argument. If as quite a newbie you are finding that this site isn't what you want then maybe its time to head off and find one that you would feel more comfortable in? or try different parts of the forum - maybe chat is too informal for you.

Just checking ... you aren't a previous CCer returned to haunt us are you?

Much the same has happened on this thread, though. When asked how we debate could be improved, the majority opinion is that can be achieved by telling the OP to **** off. Hardly an insightful way to improve the CC landscape.

Presentation is a personal style which should not, IMHO count against the poster.

GC has been, so far, the best thing which has happened to CC for a while in that he has stimulated debate like no-one else for quite some time. (Maybe he is Bonj in disguise).

Is not the heart of a good debating forum the variety of its posters? We may not all agree with or like style of the posts, but if those posts result in more posts, then that can only be healthy. GC has not insulted or disrespected anyone, which is more than I can say for some regulars.

Top marks summerdays! Though you're not the first to think so. This looks like a phony, start to finish. I have one or two candidates in mind for his or her real identity, though nothing definite...
