Just a casual glance at some of the subjects on this website reveals something less than ideal in respect of the manners and erudition of contributors. I'm not suggesting free and frank discussion should be quashed......but three word responses and expletives in the title don't really seem in the spirit of the great values of the wider Cycling family.

Does anyone have any idea as to how we might improve the quality of debate on this site?

Whoaaa! Just a minute.... I only just spotted this..

So GC is objecting to the three word post thread? A game, and one that I gather is amusing a lot of people? (I've not followed it all, so perhaps it's become a stream of obscenity?)

So what he's done is, glance at the titles in cafe, and made up an idea of what they mean, and what the 'wider cycling family' (eh?) ought to have, and we don't fit in.

Well he can bog off and find somewhere else then. I'm sure Bike Radar would love his input.

Well, if someone you hardly knew walked into a party you were at, and starting quoting newspaper articles at you aggressively, apparently purely to put you down, would you think "oh super, what a nice chap", or would you tend to move away and try to ignore him. And then if he followed you, and told you you were at fault for not liking being harangued....

It would just be nice if he entered into any kind of dialogue, rather than doing nothing but bang his own drum, and rudely at that.

Ummm, as I suspected, it is a private party! Should we newbies be quarantined for 12 months until deemed suitable to correspond with senior members? ;)

From what I see, the OP threw a question out there, we all chose to respond, he didnt force us!

Anyway, nearly time for X Factor - C'mon Wagner!!!:bravo:

there's only one asterisked expletive in a thread title in the first sixty or so threads - and that's a quotation from an irate pedestrian. I'm puzzled.....

The big difference, Ajay, is that you made a 'hello' post in the 'welcome' section of this forum, and no-one doubts your credibility! You are of course as welcome as every other genuine CCer! And yes, maybe there are 'private parties' i.e. cliques going on, but you don't have to jump into them - it's entirely up to you - most members, even the old hands, don't belong to any clique...

Stay with CC, don't be put off by a little nonsense!

Not at all, Ajay. People join, and they join in. That's how it works.
But if someone comes along and acts like a twonk, then they'll get treated as one.

And that's a technical term, you know.;)

Is GC still posting his blogs up?

He's done the same over a couple of bike forums I gather. Fair enough, newbies welcome - atleast they participate. This guy just posts nonsense and naffs off.

Reminds me of a guy who posts fundementalist islamic nonsense on the newspaper forums...

http://forum.dailyecho.co.uk/ The guys name is Ifti and he does the very same - cnp spamming all over the web.

I think we need to look at this a tad more objectively.

1/ There is nuffink wrong with having a link to your blog, just not duplicating it on the forum.

2/ No one is actually out to silence anyone.

3/ If GC wishes, instead of pasting in his blog, he is free and at total liberty to up the intelectual threshold of the forum and post petulent comments in answer to Admin's requests.

The problem I have with this man is nothing to do with his views or anything like that.

My problem is that he has come here with this sole and explicit intention of advertising his blog.

If he had come here, joined in the conversations and become a member of the community by getting engaged with the to-ing and fro-ing of the chat here, if he had come to ask or to answer people's questions, and wanted to talk about his views then fine, I couldn't begrudge that.

But he hasn't. He's come here to spam. The only posts he's made have been either verbatim copy and pasting of his blog entries, or defending posting his blog entries. There has been no engagement with the community, he's just walked in going LOOK AT ME LISTEN TO ME LOOK AT MY BLOG! And ignored everything else.

Do that on any forum and expect to get short shrift.

At best he's a spammer, at worst a troll. And I feel he deserves the stick he's received. Personally, I think he should be banned for it if he doesn't change his ways. And I'm sure he will if he doesn't, because he'd be acting in direct contravention of the rules and the spirit of this forum.

I think you'll find that anyone who came along without playing any part in the forum in other people's topics, and just cut and pasted their own opinions, in a confrontational way, would get short shrift.
Not often I post to agree with Arch, but this is one of those times.

To the extent that this does not improve the quality of debate on the forum, I apologise
