How do you like your coffee?

At the local garden centre cafe, my wife always used to order an Americano.

Until it dawned on her that an expresso topped up with hot water was almost indistinguishable, at about half the cost ...

The only difference is that with a proper Americano, the hot water goes in first, then is topped up with the espresso.

But I don't know many places where an espresso is half the cost of an americano.

It's ok as long as someone else is drinking it,Give me a cup of tea, at least that always tastes the same. coffee is different everytime you have one in coffee shops. mostly bitter .

Tea varies hugely. Even with the same person making it, different brands of "standard" tea vary quite a it (Pg Tips, Yorkshire, Liptons, all noticeably different from each other), and then you have the varieties such as Earl Grey, English Breakfast, Darjeeling, etc.

If you can't taste the difference between those, then you need to send your taste buds back for replacement

I disagree on tea. The quality definitely varies cafe to cafe. Depends entirely on the bags or leaves used.

Quality is easy to control if only one person is making it.

But your point was that coffee is defferent every time you have it in a coffee shop. You said tea was always the same without specifying that you were talking about tea when made by you. I would expect coffee to also always be the same when you mke it yourself.

In terms of consistency of flavour, there is no real difference between coffee and tea.

Mostly depends on how it's stored. Too many establishments simply have the teabags in an open container which in a hot kitchen, causes the tea to dessicate beyond any hope of getting any reasonable brew out of it.
Yes, I know tea is dried leaves, but not dried to the point of death as often happens in the above scenario - !

I think coffee varies much more than tea. Much prefer coffee out and about. Tea is a everyday drink real coffee is a much nicer drink.

Or better still a beer (pale ale) if not driving!

I don’t drink tea, but coffee varies from dishwater to something drinkable.

I often choose my cycling route to include cafes with good coffee first, good food second.

I thought 1 1/2 scoops of ground beans in an Aeropress was pretty strong but 3 sounds lethal! I've been ordering quite large quantities of beans (5 or 6 kilos) from DiscountCoffee and have been enjoying Larozza Moka beans, which I prefer finely ground, and served black with no sugar.

Out and about, though, I actually quite like Costa Coffee. I think that's my preference for mocha style coffee. I don't understand Starbucks at all. Caffè Nero is ok but smells far better than it tastes.

I weighed my 3 scoops today and it was 19 grammes. When I checked out other aeropress recipes it seems like 10 grammes per cup is normal, so I suppose it's like having a double shot which is what I order when I ask for a latte.

In their camping 'special, coming up, Aldi are offering a coffee maker which appears to work simply by pouring boiling water onto your ground coffee of choice, wait and serve.
I think it's around £6, but has a five year warranty - !
Any takers - ?

I’ve a V60 around £5 now uses exactly the same process makes lovely coffee but never with boiling water!
