Reached a total of 3000 miles last year, have already reached 3000miles this year (6dec') I started counting from the second week in January so I 'm definitely up on last year, no target though, I just wanted to do more mileage this year.......which I've managed :bicycle:.........

I started my 30 mile a week minimum/1000 miles this year target in may to try and fight some fitness into my weak, organ snatched and illness riddled body.

Before this year I never stuck to anything let alone cycling for more than a few weeks even when I was totally able bodied but I have managed to smash my 1000 a few weeks ago and I am still going on my 30 minimum weeks without missing a single one.

I’m slow and struggle quite abit plus my numbers are pretty unimpressive compared to some on here but it’s a big personal achievement so far! 2000 next year!

Touch and go for me. I'm about 40 miles short of where I should be and if I was working all the way up to the new year I would get there. Trouble is I've only got one more week of commuting then the festivities begin. Will have to force myself to get out and get the remaining 400 ish miles done.

Target is 5000 miles and at present at 4700 so hopefully should scrape in

After just 2.5 miles this week , I am less optimistic about reaching the target

Time you enjoyed wasting was not wasted
82 miles short of the 4,00 after a good ride yesterday. However, suffered a back strain whilst fixing the shower yesterday, so will have to see if that hinders me, plus my wife has gone down with bird flu so it's probably only a matter of time before I get the male equivalent - manflu, plus the kids are coming home for Christmas so getting out might not be as easy. Should do it but not as nailed on as I thought it was a coupe of weeks ago.

Light years away from my target of 2000. Started well at beginning of year but out of the blue my lovely wife diagnosed with a serious illness and massive amount of times been spent at or in hospitals and looking after her. Love my bike but not nearly as much as my wife.
Hoping for better next year on both fronts.

Sad situation but a nice post. I like it when people express their love for each other like that. Best wishes to both of you for the future.

I had a target of 10000 miles and was well on target with a month to go. They do say pride comes before a fall, and so it was. One shattered right clavicle (now nicely plated) later and im on 9790 miles. Question is... if I confront the terrible boredom of the turbo trainer can I do 210 miles in the remaining weeks, and would it count?

Bad luck - I hope you make a rapid recovery from that injury!

As for the turbo trainer question ... Purists would say no, and until this year I did too. But then I thought about it and came to the conclusion that I ride my local roads often enough to not have to do them in depressing or dangerously icy conditions.

My cycling target is to motivate me to do enough to keep fit and my weight under control. I will always do over 90% of that cycling outdoors. Turbo training is more intense than my usual road riding so I don't consider it 'cheating' on my fitness goals to count turbo 'miles', and I don't think that you should either. While you are recovering from your accident, go for it on the turbo trainer! Just make sure that the resistance is set high enough that your efforts are at least as hard as riding on the road.

I'm 46 miles closer after 10 days of no riding (crappy weather and post-tooth extraction pain)...I'm 155 miles short, as I'm off work as of Friday and the weather forecast up until Christmas at least looks less cold and less wet, it feels attainable
