How far can I drive to pick up a bike?

Is it? As far as I can see there has been no official definition of local. A distance that I decide is local will be different from my neighbour. And, crucially, may be different from a police officer that may stop me.
See also the definition of exercise/socialising. I can meet my friend for a walk but if we take sandwiches with us it then becomes a picnic
Yup, the rules are often daft. Bat-sh!t crazy in some ways.
Mentally, we are better off not remaining “locked behind the front door”. So exercise is good. Having a sandwich whilst exercising turns it into a super spreading event  We saw how well society felt at Derbyshire Police when they tried to enforce that on two friends with a cup of coffee. Power-crazy.

Going to busy supermarkets where people still insist on touching multiple items on shelves is okay....but driving your car for an hour to safely collect a bike is deemed by many here to be a BadThing™.
Nothing about this pandemic is straightforward.

Stay safe, stay distant. Sanitise regularly.

Unless you draw attention to yourself with a knackered vehicle or illegal driving, my view is you are doing no more harm to society, and you could make a world of difference to your granddaughters life.

I realise many here will disagree with me. I have friends in Leicester (Lockdown Leicester, the modern day Eyam!) who in a lockdown 1 would happily cycle to the “city limits” (I went with them), yet would resolutely not go further, because of The Law :stop: I think they are crazy, but I respect their strict interpretation.

Stay safe, stay distant. Sanitise regularly :okay:

Re the original post, I would wait just a bit longer.
And then avoid Derbyshire.

That’s a good point. Will you pick up the bike in a car park by a reservoir in Derbyshire?
I must admit, partly as Yorkshire's tourism effort has always impressed me (Leeds station has an excellent shop/info point) I have found myself wondering if Derbyshire has a tourism office. If so, even after this hell has passed - hopefully soon - I think I'd wait a while if I were them before rolling out a big publicity drive.
