i'm thinking of starting to commute after christmas, it will be 12 mile each way that i think will take about 50 mins. with me having to be at work by 5.45am, it was the reason i posted a question about marathon + in the accessories forum, any little bit of time saved will be loved!
just wondering how far you commute and do any of you start work early?

35 mile round commute in all weathers. Leave the house at 7.40am for a 9am start.

15 miles each way, takes an hour or so (1.5hrs in deep snow or ice)

leave at 0615 hrs, so not as early as you, but believe me it's cold up here North of inverness

I use 30mm Schwalbe marathon racers in the summer and 35mm studded schwalbe marathon winters when the snow and ice come

The main issue is getting going. Just say to yourself that you're going to do it no matter what, after a whie, you'll take bad to not doing it. It'll be about -5C tomorrow am, but I just bought more gloves^_^

As a colleague of mine told me .....JFDI

28 mile round trip 5 days a week all year. Wouldn't have it any other way. More, less , whatever, go for it, you'll never look back.

This question comes up regularly, I do a 13 mile round trip, 6.5 miles each way, 25 minutes each way.

10 miles each way, early shift every 3 weeks now and I leave the house at 4.45am, takes some getting used to. :tired:
nearly same as me then, i do earlies every three weeks, sandwiched between lates and nights! the other two shifts wont be that bad, just the extra early start that i don't like the thought of!

I do the same Bb, though I've only recently added the night shift in.
Great to be out of the rush hour traffic, not so great cycling home at 1.30am on a Saturday morning

The thing about my late shift, 10am to 6:45pm, is that I miss the rush hour, except for Friday when I finish at 2:30pm, Bedworth is crammed with shoppers and by the time I get into Coventry the school run is starting.

Just under five miles each way and it takes me around 35-50 minutes depending on what the traffic is like and how many red lights I hit. A third of my journey is through Hyde Park which is lovely.

My new commute will be about three miles but it's not worth my while to cycle when the train journey plus walking is only 20 minutes. It would take me too long to get ready, get there, lock up and change before work and I hate riding through Brixton.

Very rural, almost traffic free 11.5 miles in each direction, some climbing. Takes about 40 minutes on the way in, the prevailing always a help. Can take forever on the way home into a stiff headwind. Resistance training eh!

10 miles each way here. Normally 3 or 4 days a week and it takes between 40 and 55 minutes each way depending on headwinds. The route to Cambridge is largely rural until the nasty Cambridge bit, and mostly flat, and luckily on reasonable quality off road cycle paths. I'm also lucky to have a good changing room at work with showers/ lockers.

10 miles each way, 3-4 days a week. Takes 28-35 minutes going in (mostly downhill) and 36-45 back (mostly uphill).

My commute's all on main roads as well, mostly dual carriageways with cycle lanes on all but 4 70mph dual-carriageway miles. There are lots of bikes doing the route though, so that helps with awareness.

We've got an underground bike cage at work plus showers/lockers in my building as well.
