How fast do you go downhill?

Fast enough to set the speed cameras off on the A629(downhill), whilst wondering why nothing was passing me. Then I noticed the police car in the other lane, keeping pace & two lanes of cars behind us. Four wheels though, not two.

Descending Norwood Edge, at speed and at final right hand bend before it flattens out I saw a stationary vehicle straddled perpendicular across both lanes. Just past where the guy is on the first google map street view. I braked sharply but there was no chance of stopping before I reached the vehicle. I quickly evaluated that the vehicle had been parked off road and was carrying out a 3 point turn to go up the hill. I didn't know whether they saw me come round the corner or not but thought my best chance was to head behind the vehicle. As I tried to steer right to avoid the large trees I hit loose gravel and was thrown from my bike. Luckily I flew alongside the road, rather than into the wooded area where I wouldn't have lived to tell the tale.

I then skidded along the gravel before crashing into the back of another vehicle parked off road, breaking my ankle, and hurting my back, causing a three night hospital stay.

The occupant(s) of the subject vehicle paused for a moment, presumably to see if I was moving before just driving off. I managed to stay conscious to alert a passing motorist to my distress.

The police never did trace the vehicle despite a request through local media.

On reflection, I shouldn't have been riding so fast and now descend more gingerly. ^_^

A check of the Garmin showed I was doing 50 when I parted ways with the bike.

Wow, nasty, very nasty. Glad you're here to tell the tale.

Puzzle game procrastinator!
The answer to your question then - I have only once managed to break through the 50 mph mark, and that was while doing the Way of the Roses, going down a long hill somewhere near Grassington. I was on a Specialized Tricross with some extra luggage weight to assist. I think it was only a Carradice saddle bag, but well packed.
If you were going west to east, then that would be Greenhow hill into Pateley Bridge. That's where I witnessed THIS!

I used to have ideas of trying to do 60 mph downhill, and then of course, I might as well go for 100 kph since that is just a little bit faster ... I am losing my appetite for it now. I still hit 50 mph from time to time but that will do me. I take Warfarin so if I come off at any significant speed there is likely to be LOTS of bleeding!

My record on the 30 year old steel road bike was 49 mph which was fun and a bit scarey. I'm all mountain biker these days which will get me up to 37 mph down Finkle Street Lane before I need to chuck out the anchor to get back on the trail. Being fat at the moment helps the acceleration.

I just have confidence in the machinery, and just act like a big kid. I just wanna get out and fly!

It wasn't there; it was the time I did it east to west and the hill was slightly off the official route as I was heading to my B&B in Grassington.

44.7 mph down beacon hill recorded with my incredibly inaccurate mobile phone according to @Supersuperleeds who's top speed I beat . Wouldnt want to do much faster

I did 50mph there and that's my record.Wouldn't normally go any faster. What @slowmotion said I probably wouldn't go that fast anymore or more than 30/40mph.More worried about a mechanical failure than anything else.
