I'm on the wagon too. It really beats me why anyone would waste so much money on booze. Pathetic.

Indeed rich - I thought it was very noble of you to force down those beers in Brighton just to be sociable.

About half your own body mass in pure alcohol. You, sir, are a phenomenon! Hats off! You are also extremely dead...

I used to drink a ridiculous amount when I was younger. I have been virtually alcohol free for about 4 years now, the last time I had an alcohol drink was the free sample when I visited the Glenfiddich distillery about a year ago. Stopping drinking was the best thing I ever did.

About 35 units. A year. And that's a bad year. Probably closer to 20-30 units.

Had a couple of glasses of wine last week at a bbq. That's the biggest intake of alcohol in one hit this year. Otherwise it's one drink occasionally in the summer. Hardly ever in the winter.

Reminds me of a Dean Martin: 'I feel sorry for people who don't drink, because when they wake up in the morning, that's as good as they're going to feel all day.' Another of his: 'If you can lie down without holding on you're not really pissed.'

It's funny how this topic comes up every now and again and there's a rush to claim some sort of moral high ground (not allways stated, but implied) from the non or very light drinkers. Many people would consider I drink far too much, hey ho each to his or her own, I probably wouldn't agree with some of the tee totalers other life choices but it's really none of my business. As for being a waste of money, I enjoy a decent bottle of wine or good quality beer and am lucky enough to be able to afford it. Some people spend loads of money on electronic gadgets (i phones, garmins etc.) which I have no interest in at all, whether something is a 'waste' of money is very much down to the individuals priorities and intertests imo.

Barnet,
If I am honest, and I will be, I probably drink too much, on the days I can drink, because of my job I have to abstain from drinking 12 hours before starting a shift. So on the days when I don't have to go to work the next day I will have 4 or 5 pints of ale, so on average I reckon 20-30 units a week. I must cut down.

You're very welcome Rich, what are you having?

PS
After considering the beer tasting opportunities of the north sea cycle route i think I've decided on next years summer tour.

Nothing on week nights but I like a glass of wine with dinner at the weekends. I'm a bit of a wine fan and have a lot of wine stored around my house. I just spent the weekend at a festival and managed 5 half pints of cider the whole weekend, which was absolutely pathetic considering the state that some people got in!
