I used to drink every day until 18 months ago (I'm 37). Sometimes I'd get drunk, sometimes not. Never had a plan, but never went without.

The quack told me that fat counts on my liver were higher than they should be, and normally caused by booze.

I now leave it to Fri/Sat/Sun and don't drink to anywhere near the levels I used to.

As I like cycling first thing I've also found since I started a month ago that I don't like to get too much down me because of dehydration.

Having said that, I still love the taste of a great real ale....

It's quite rare I have a night off the booze ... I do like a drink (although I'm not one of these who has to get drunk every night). Real ale is my preferred tipple, but I do like red wine and malt whisky too. And I smoke, and sometimes I even do drugs.

I'm just about to start my second year at uni which will mean my drinking will step up again, during the summer i've only drunk at the local, going to town rarely to save cash, although in China pint bottles of beer were 5 yuan at the most (50p) so went a bit over the top a few times. At uni i drink excessively 5 nights a week, needs to be addressed this year...

I gave up drinking when I was about nineteen. I realised that I didn't actually like the taste, only drank for the effect and drink contributed nothing positive to my life.

I actually wrote to some crowd called the Alcohol Advisory Bureau or something like that and the stuff I got back from them was staggering. It was the statistics that blew me away. Everything from health and accidents to sick days and violence, alcohol can be quite unbelievably detrimental. So I chucked it.

Not dogmatic about it though. My wife likes wine and I often buy her a bottle. Grown ups can make their own minds up about what they want to do.

I do it once a week (I've cheated and added the option to the poll) - at the pub with the rest of the darts team.

Don't really drink much other than occasional family party and Christmas / New Year.

Cheers,
Shaun

I have a half two or three times a week, and sometimes a few more on the weekend, but not every weekend. Currently enjoying Steam Whistle out here in Canada, which is really rather good as an ordinary easy-drinking pilsners go. We do have a brew-pub over in the town, but I usually don't feel like taking the ferry over in the evening...

What's [zb], by the way?
I assumed Joe24 had been to a German class and it was zum Beispiel (which should of course be rendered zB but I know he's not into capital letters). Zum Beispiel usually fits the context too! (it's German for e.g.)

Because of the the tough drink and drugs policy we have on the railway, I have a few pints on the days I am not working, but none at all on the day before booking on and of course days when I am working.

I don't really drink a lot. I used to be big on drinking, but over the years my urge to get p***ed got smaller and now I end up drinking once or twice a month, and in moderation. I don't enjoy losing control over myself.

I drink only real ale and red wine. I always have a bottle of red to myself for sunday dinner (My wife has almost given up drinking alcohol now) and sometimes meet a friend for a few pints mid-week.

Maidstone Beer Festival on Saturday - about ten pints consumed.

Reg Harris famously drank a bottle of red every evening throughout his adult life.
