There seems to be a lot of well-off people on here thats for sure.
Depends what you call well off. Working 75 hours a week and still have the phone ringing at weekends - what would be your price? :becool:

I'm working 7 days a week at the moment. But then I'm enjoying writing this book much more than the teaching. If I had my choice I would just research and write and not have to teach or be involved in pointless university admin at all. But I'm generally happy, and what I earn is just a bonus, really.

Depends again. My manager (as opposed to my supervisor) is rumoured to work these kinds of hours and have this kind of lifestyle. She may not be very popular but is a couple of years away from retirement and the sort of age one would certainly worry about those kinds of hours on a health basis (I'm sure someone that age could easily work something like a more sane 35-40 hours). All this for £25k-30k.

I'm actually on the higher end of option 2. But then I was lucky. I bought my house for 45K and it is now worth a bit shy of 110k and my mortgage is only £174 a month. My council tax is nearly catching up with my morgage though - the feckers, and that is with the 25% single person discount! You guys in Enl-ger-land are lucky they scrapped the rebanding after using Wales as a trial. They put me up a tax band!!!!!! I couldn't afford to rent in the current climate.

7-8 yrs ago, I was working full-time (Mon-Fri, 9-5) and in a rut. So, I wrote 2 books (about teaching, on my specialist subject) over 2 yrs in my spare time and weekends... 7pm till midnight, all day Sat and Sun... with 3 kids, too... a bloody hard time, if I'm honest, but I was a man obsessed... 1 week after the 2nd book came out, I got made redundant! Doh! Still, one of the books sells very well, so I aint complaining!
