How much do you spend on booze?

Hmm, depends on kid schedules and social outings.

Spent £24 on some lagers and ales from a little brewery in Norfolk I chanced by today.

Possibly about 20-30 a week as an average.

It's down a lot since responsibility caught up with me. The thing is, I really enjoy pub/bar culture. Wherever I have been in the world, I always took great pleasure sitting on a bar stool chatting to whoever sat on the next one, whether it be in the station bar overlooking Brugges or a corner shack in Thailand.

Still would love a Jupiler right now.

My cycling buddy is a consultant physician and he gets slaughtered a couple of times a month.... only on expensive wine though.

One of my MTB mates little brothers is doing a degree in Medicine and he seems to advocate and subsist on a diet of beer and Jazz.

I'm no doctor, but I'd deffo recommend giving up the jazz.

These threads are always full of the 'never touch it' replies. It's a skewed result, as the drinkers don't post either out of shame or lack of interest.

The recommended 21 units per week is based on GP's asking patients how much they drink. I'm pretty sure most people lie, and probably underestimate by 50%. In which case I reckon you are probably safe to drink 42 units per week. When one of my heroes Keith Floyd went to hospital in his later years and had a liver function test his liver was found to be working 100% effectively.

I spend £0 as I stopped drinking a few months ago, I don't see the point in it anymore.

I don't know what this says about me but none of my friends are teetotal. It just wouldn't work.

Not that I follow a policy of not associating with teetotallers but certain phrases do set off alarm bells:-

that normally means that I'll need to drink a prodigious amount to have any glimmer of hope of having fun in that company

The price of beer and single malt is much of a muchness, and I'll just buy what I fancy. On wine I spend £10 a bottle or so retail - more for a special occcasion, anything from £20 to £35 in a restaurant. Apart from a couple of modest nights celebrating my brother's birthday, nothing at all since Shrove Tuesday - and, for the first time, I'm having a dry patch and not missing the booze one jot. But some lovely people bought me a bottle of decent claret and a vintage champagne for a talk I did, so I've got a couple of decent drinks to look forward to.
