I think you're absolutely right, @vickster

I've always taken the view that eBay is the closest approximation of a pure market that we have. If you spell something correctly, list it in the correct categories, take decent photos, write a decent listing (I've had hundreds of mine plagiarised over the years), offer reasonable shipping and set it off with a low price on a Sunday evening, it will sell for what it's worth. After around 1500 sales over the years, I think I've been disappointed in the final price a handful of times, and so delighted with the price that I start to worry about buyer's remorse and not being paid, hundreds of times.

It is a lovely bike - I'd keep it, ride the snot out of it and chalk the rest up to experience!

So true!

Decent close up pictures.
Details specs.
Year bike was made
Definite size of frame.
Plus already researched to determine a fair price.
Anyone who was genuinely interested in buying the bike would do their own research and would easily see that it's been listed between £850 and £5000 which shows he has no idea how much it's worth.

I think the previous owner sold Ollie a bit of a line as to the value and he’s getting a bit desperate to recoup something close to what he was told.
An 8 year old race bike from an obscure brand isn’t going to hold its value too well even in the current hot bike market

I think like you said they're making the assumption it's worth more in the current climate.

It might be worth £100 more but not 2k. It's going to have a very limited market (especially as there's no receipt, knowledge of history etc etc) so a big dose of realism needed.
I'd research how much it might be worth in bits if everything is in tip top nick. Whether more than £850, don't know

Random google throws up this https://www.bicyclebluebook.com/value-guide/product/3036437/ which says private party range $899-$925 for an Ultegra equipped one, private sale. I've never heard of Bicycle Blue Book but it's a reasonable stab. And at that level of accuracy you can convert $ directly to £.

It's a specialist bike. And people in the market for such a specialist bike are likely to be pretty discerning and not that keen on a bike that was all the rage about 10 years ago.

$900 for pristine condition.
$562 for fair (cosmetic defects etc) which for a bike of that age, there is a good chance.
So that suggests just over £400 to £648 depending on condition.....(but also whatever someone is willing pay for it).
