How old were you when you got your first proper bike?

I was about 10 and my brother would be 14 when we both had brand new bikes one Christmas. Mine was a 24 inch wheel 3 speed geared bike(I thought i was well grown up having a bike with gears) No idea of brand but my brothers was a white Sun "racer " 5 speed. Still don't know how our parents afforded them as money was always tight.
