How to Access router details

Hello all,
I about a year ago brought a Dlink 615 router from eBay (second hand) which I basically plugged in and used as was. Now I would like to change some of the routers details But I'm guessing as I don't have any of the original paper work I am going to run into problems. Is this the case ? I seem to remember a friend of mine some time back accessing the router as a web page and being able to alter it's details from there.
Any help would be much appreciated.

What exactly do I have to type, I have no User name or password

Open a browser then, where you'd usually type the address of a web site, put in 192.168.0.1

If that's the right address, it will open up a web page which asks for a user name and password. Try the username Admin and no password.

most will use the ip address given above, but not all do.
if you want to be sure run the folowing commands from your pc

start > run > type in "cmd"
this will open a dos window
at the command prompt type "ipconfig"
this will give your ip address.

e. g your ip address comes back as 192.168.3.10 then it's a fair bet your router address will be 192.168.3.0 or 3.1
(i used 3 to highlight differences)

if you now type ping 192.168.3 0 for example it will come back with 5 successful pings. you can be sure this is the address you need to put into your browser

if your not sure, come back with the info from ipconfig and we should be able to help you

as others have said, the username is usually Admin or admin or root

192.168.0.1 is the default gateway for many routers, however not all. As above, open up a command prompt window and enter in "ipconfig". The IP address you use to access your router is the one listed under "Default Gateway". Enter this in to your browser and your routers control panel will appear.

There may or may not be a username and password for accessing the router. If there is, it's most likely the default password - Either blank, or something along the lines of "Admin" and "Password". You can normally find the default username and passwords for specific brands of router by searching Google for something along the lines of "D-Link router default password", for example.

The IP address for the DLink 615 (if still set to default) is 192.168.0.1 and the password is Admin. There is no passsword. (Unless someone has been playing)

Thanks everyone,much appreciated. I have had a look at the settings as I thought the power might have been turned down but unfortunately it is at full power (the wifi connection is not the best any where in the house apart from in the room where the router is) Maybe the thing is on the way out!

Download a copy of inSSIDer and use it to see what channels other networks are running. You may find it useful to change the channel your router is broadcasting on to either 1 or 11 (if not already) depeneding on what channels other networks are using (most use channel 6 for some reason). It could be that your router is running perfectly well, there is just too much interference from other networks on the same channel
