What's the quickest way to brake in single speed? I still have brakes but find it bouncing me up and down.

Only my first time to using single speed after converting my bike. I've watched a couple videos on YouTube for like a skid stop, but I can not to do it all

Can you clarify what you mean? That doesn't make sense. Also, as Dave R says - are you on SS or fixed wheel?

New one on me, in all the years I have been riding fixed I have never experienced any "bouncing". Is this a euphemism for something else?

The only 'bouncing' I ever see is track riders getting out of the saddle to push back on the upstroke - so not really bouncing as such anyway. Something you shouldn't need to do if you have brakes anyway....

Assuming fixie, basically you need to keep pedalling gently / let your legs spin freely - and use brakes normally and all will be well.

Although using legs to brake can be done I don't recommend it as there's a high chance of being bucked off the bike.

As an aside, a fellow fixed rider left his bike unlocked one night and it was missing in the morning - he found it in the hedge at the first corner and presumed the thief had tried to freewheel but got high-sided off into the hedge

I thought ss and fixed were the same. I'm guessing fixed then from what everyone says. So I just just use my brakes? As most fixed gear bikes I've seen only have the front one

It's considered cool though illegal to not have any brakes. It's legal and still pretty cool to only have a front brake since your back up is your legs .

I have front and back brakes on mine and don't really care if I'm cool or not.
