One year I very carefully carried ours out whole although admittedly it was only a five footer. All was going swimmingly until the tip of one branch just brushed the doorway. With a shimmer every needle fell to the floor.

My 7 foot non-drop, only shed enough leaves for a quick hoover thankfully.

Having said that, I'll still be finding needles next August

PVC or other plastic tarp. will work better for wrapping the tree than any woven textile material, which will cling onto all your needles and not let them go.
Like a bee-keeper, wanting to keep bees.

We just have a plastic tree, assemble, plug in and it lights up. Had it for years. Looks just like a real one, green and spiky.

Friends have a wood burning stove and I've offered them this all chopped up, anyone know much about drying/preparing it properly? I assume it won't be much more use than kindling once I've cut it all back?
