Hi.

I was wondering if I can get some advice on a Specialized Globe Comp 2008 Hybrid (Mens) bike I am interested in but have not yet seen nor tried. It is a used bike that has a 58cm frame (Large). I'm 5" foot 7 1/2. Is it likely this bike is too large?

It's a bit of a travel to get to the location so was wondering whether it would be worth at least checking it. What are the fundamental things I should look or feel for considering I may only be able to try it for a number of minutes? My intention is to use the bike for commuting in London, 5 miles each way for work.

Thanks.

Rav.

I have exactly that bike! It's excellent. I have a 61cm and I am 6'-1". Maybe a 58 is too big for you but there is quite a bit of adjustment. You really need to try it.

First off Ray, welcome to the forum...

I would say it may be slightly too large..
I have a Specialized Globe Comp 08 Hybrid, 55cm frame and I am 5' 8".
Wouldn't have a frame bigger then that. I even had to turn the stem upside down and change over a spacer as the handlebars were too high

First of all thank you very much for your welcoming and very rapid replies. Hugely appreciated! From your insightful responses, it appears that the bike is perhaps just too large. My inside leg measures just above 29cm. I will check the bike but I will make an additional visit to Camden Cycles for other second hand hybrids.

It's a shame as it's now clear it is a very good bike. I will consider alternatives such as Ridgeback Flight T2 08 (which incidently is I have tried but virtually impossible to find available). Something upto £400 second hand, anything that is as light and fast as these models. Any suggestions would be most welcome.

And thanks again for your replies!

i'm 6'2ish and ride a 58 or a 60 so i'd say thats too big to be comfortable.

I have a similar problem,

second hand bicycle bigger than it should be

Im 1.73 tall (5 feet 8 inches) and the bicycle 57cm

handlebars were a bit far so I advanced a little the saddle,

I also thought about change the stem and i probably ill do

did somebody tried it already?

After being contacted by one of your contributors about their year old bike, it looks like I maybe getting a specialised globe comp after all. I can't wait to try it out!

Thanks for that info Randochap! I finally got my bike from one of the contributers and it's a great and smooth ride. A specialized Globe Comp (55cm). I took it out for a few hours on saturday here in london and it's so refreshing to have the freedom to move around without speedtraps, traffic jams and little or no car parking spaces (I got rid of my car a few months ago). It's still a little hairy on busy roads but I'm sure I'll get used to it.
It's so good to be mobile again.....

I'll do that Sittingduck! I've been riding it to work and back and it beats the bus anyday. I think the chain or something needs a bit of work as I am having trouble swiching gears and it rattles quite a bit on a number of attempted gear changes. Perhaps it needs service? Perhaps I can do it?
