I blame Bollo

A few weeks ago, Bollo tried to convince me to ride a different route into work. For the benefit of locals, this meant foregoing the A3090 to take Port Lane up into Oliver's Battery and on to Winchester.

For the past couple of weeks, therefore, I have been following Bol's advice. And a jolly nice route it is today.

But then we come to today. Pouring it down as I'm sure it was everywhere, and I'm riding down Port Lane. Something blocks my path - in fact, it blocks the whole road. Cars are turning around and retreating the way they came.

It's a puddle, but it covers the road from verge to verge and beyond. It is an interesting shade of brown and about half a foot deep. It runs for at least thirty foot.

I pick up speed and sail past the cars, charging through the murky depths. Lifting my legs only at the deepest part I throw a cheerful wave to the shiny 4x4s with their tails between their wheels as I reach the other side, and peddle on home.

So Bollo, I blame you entirely for the best fun I've had this week. Ta muchly!

It wouldn't do to get a 4x4 wet, it might melt... ;)

I rule!

You're a braver man than I for ever attempting that bit of the A3090. Between Hursley and Romsey it's ok put that last bit to Winchester is lethal. One of the very few local roads that's on my ignore list.

As another local Winchie-Boy I agree. There was even a novice triathlon using that stretch of the main the other day. The Port Lane Puddle is made of mud running off the pig field and it will be there till April now in my view....

Dammit. Once or twice is fun, but a muddy soaking twice a day for six months will be a proverbial.

Ummm, errr, didn't you hear about the burst sewer on Port Lane....
