The problem with that being...?

Anyhoo, I've never been under the illusion that the BBC should cater solely for me. As such, I accept the presence of Strictly, Bakely and the like as quid pro quo for stuff I do like (Musketeers, Dr. Who, The Secret Agent, The Night Manager, documentaries about Duffle Coats on BBC four). Mrs M will be sad to see Bakely go, and I might miss bread week (the only part I really like).

Oh, and Happy Valley and that Thirteen thing, which was great.

And you watch programmes about road- building, too, do you?

Theres a significant difference between knowing what something is and watching it. I know what Jeremy Kyle, The X Factor and The Sky at Night are but that doesnt mean I watch them.

Bake off is brill. Good luck to them, why shouldn't they sell the format for the best price. The BBC were welcome to keep it but didn't want to pay its value.

As for all this "the BBC built it to what it is"...tosh, they struck gold and rinsed it for all it was worth.(to them)

Nearly chocked on my cocopops this morning reading that sire Alan sugar thinks the format creator to be greedy!!

Have channel 4 slipped up here, dont C4 have a remit to bring on talent rather than buy things in? It could open then up to privatisation again.

We can only hope that Alan Carr has an opening during the summer.

I had a very interesting point to make about the renewal of the BBC charter, but I don't think anyone's actually that bothered are they?

It sounds like a top gear situation now, same show but different presenters, could be a flop. At this rate all channel 4 will have bought is the name and a format.

I'm not hugely fussed either way but I can't help but wonder how some TV exec is currently explaining to the Channel 4 board about how he's spent £25 million buying the rights to the GBBO, but not actually got any of the presenters as part of the deal - and two of them have already decided not to move with the show...

Still, Channel 4 have already set their stall out with the announcement that the first series in 2017 will be a "celebrity" chari-dee special.
