I don't think she even saw me

You where more than likely shielded by the other cars and when you where not, her line of sight was not looking in your direction. Very common.

It could have been a SMIDSY. I think the OP was visible but older drivers are more likely to only look for cars, and not see a two wheeler because their brain only looks for the perceived threat - i.e. cars and not bikes.

Thomk, were you wearing hi-vis ?

I other possibilities are:
  • she didn't care
  • mis-judged your approach speed but didn't bother checking left because there was a bus coming for her.

I was wearing this (the mens one!).

It had been raining as well earlier in the ride and I still had my flashing front light on, although at this point the light and visibility was good and the flashing light was probably of little use.

I would bet that she didn't see me at all or at least not in the context of being a movable hazard. I got a good look at her and she seemed very serene. She seemed to me to be driving fairly briskly for a lady of her years and as you say was probably fixated on beating the bus.

No jibes about how rubish my jacket is at stopping the rain

I'd guess that she didn't see you at first, but did see you at the last minute and tried 'if I blank him, he'll just disappear', its easier than admitting her mistake!

PS if your jacket isn't great on waterproofing you wan to balance out those Amazon reviews :excl:

Another likely answer is she didn't really care, she saw you and judged she could pull out whilst keeping far enough right to avoid hitting you. Plain impatience and not giving a stuff if she shoots you up.

Is the bus flashing it's top lights at her or is it just a side affect of my dodgy technology?

BTW I was shouting oyyyy very loudly at her but the microphone failed to pick it up over the road noise.

I will. I just want to have a few more rainy rides in it to gauge the exact extent of its effectiveness. It has only let water in once that I've noticed and it was an hour of fairly heavy rain so at the moment the jury's still out. I don't want to be unfair to Tenn by giving misleading or exaggerated criticism.

I'm surprised when pedestrians actually look, see me and do something sensible with the info, I expect them to wander out without looking at all, a lot look up at the last second when presumably they hear the bike, possibly when they hear me start to swear
