I don't want an X Box, I wouldn't know how to use one and they sound so mind numbingly boring!

In the early 90s in the dibble we were told to cease using the fire extinguisher to prop the office door open in warm weather. Health an safety, and actual offence to wilfully interfere with items provided for a health and safety purpose, it would seem. Fair enough.

So we used the monitor from the office computer, that's how well loved and used it wasn't.

Something I came across recently, for those of us that had a Commodore Amiga, is the Amiga 600GS and Amiga1200NG.

These are modern compatable versions of the A600 and A1200, the 600 is probably the most user friendly as its an all in one kit. The 1200 version is just a motherboard, some accessories are available, but you will need a case, drive, HDD etc. I'm keeping an eye on an expected 1200 in full kit that should release this year. I've got pretty big collection of Amiga stuff still and if I got that all working again I'd be pretty happy lol.

No, I havnt had a games console since the Sega MegaDrive. I tried Call of Duty a couple times with my son who excels at it ...the setup, choosing locations, weapons, armour, etc etc etc just bores me then, playing the game is like a tsunami of movement and action, you (i) just can't keep up, so you get killed over and over.
The last game I did really well at was Sonic on the Megadrive, I'd spend hours on it, but that would have been early 90s perhaps ?

So basically there were 2 computers released by Commodore called the Amiga 600 and 1200, amongst many others they released. Both computers have a strong following today but given their age working examples are expensive, and problematic to maintain.

The 600GS is a small box, connects to your TV normally and wireless to your home network so you can play these old games. The 1200NG is a more advanced solution that will let you connect old accessories to it like a floppy drive for a more authentic experience. The manufacturer has promised an all in one solution is coming, though I fancy dabbling with some DIY and building my own.

Another vote for pineapple on pizza here please and if it can come with some garlic bread please
Now I love a bit of garlic bread, but only with pasta. To have it as a starter with pizza really confuses me as to why - aren't you already having enough bread-based products in your meal that you need more? The doughballs at Pizza Express are delicious, but if I have those and then a pizza after I'd feel bloated by the time I got to my second slice.

As a proud owner of an Amiga 1200 back in the day, this does scratch that nostaglia itch quite hard! My one I actually upgraded the memory for it and added an external hard drive - a whopping 4GB one!

Still have mine, complete with insulation tape on it as I mucked up the installation of my hard drive, all 200mb of it! I've toyed with unpacking and getting it refurbished for years, it was functional last I checked 10 or so years back when I swapped out the HDD for a CF card. Also has some extra RAM.

I actually had a 600 first, still salty my parents bought me that and not a 1200 lol

I've just heard someone on the radio say/rant that 'They all have X Boxes in prison, when it's supposed to be a place of punishment'! 🤬 How many times have I heard rants about prisoners having X Boxes in prison! Listen, if I was doing time and was given an X Box I'd swap it for something useful like a packet of biscuits or a bog roll, as the thought of using one sends me to sleep!!:tired: Do you have one and if so why?🤔

Get with it grandad.

Wasn't thinking as a starter but a side course at the same time as the pizza.

Never tried the dough balls but then the last time I was in pizza express or any other pizza establishment would be over 20 years ago so things have changed a bit I should think.

Nice to see we are on subject

I bought a PS5 for my better half and I back in March. because our gaming pc is 10 years old now with a 5 year old graphics card "upgrade" in it, unable to play some recent game releases and a console was the far cheaper hardware option.

But I'm struggling to use it much, I love Rocket League (Rumble gamemode) on the pc, but keyboard plus mouse isn't a play option in Rocket League and I simply cannot adapt to using the PS5 controller to play.

The only thing that's got me using it more recently is another free to play game, namely Disney Speedstorm, a karting game I'd heard of but never tried on any platform until a fortnight ago...

But even with Speedstorm, I split my time pretty evenly between the PS5 and the old gaming pc, mainly because my old eyes can keep better track of everything when I'm ~3 feet from a 27" pc monitor than ~8 feet away from the 32" ps5 tv!

It feels a bit weird still being a light gamer in my 50s, but I've had gaming computers most of my life, going back to the ZX81.
I play a lot of PC games and like you find the idea of playing most games without a keyboard and mouse problematic - especially first person type games. That being said I picked up a Steam Deck last year, it has revolutionised how I play games. Got it set up in the living room connected to the TV for Mrs C to play stardew valley, but most of my PC games work on it, plus I can just grab it and lie in bed playing games. An 8" screen 8" from your face seems comparable to a 55" on the wall to me.

It seems there are people who occupy the "set" of those who even know what an ex-box is and like pineapple on pizza.
A sad commentary on the state of our civilization.
They must console themselves that they are unlikely to intersect with a set containing Gwylan.

Can we put to bed the idea prisoners all have game consoles. They don't and any prisoner that has one , first has to be off basic so has to behave and be trusted. Then they will have saved up the daily allowance they earn though work or education. To buy one and ordered it from the same private company that runs the prison shop. At massively inflated price as with every thing else they have to buy like toothpaste.

This news story looks to be pretty much saying what you have stated.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...soles-100-000-cost-dubbed-insult-victims.html

However I remember a earlier news story about Playstation 2's where loads were bought by a privately run prison to keep prisoners more under control years before that because I remember wanting a Playstation 2 at the time and it was a sizeable purchase for me and yet given free for use by prisoners in order to make their control easier. Maybe it has become marginally fairer nowadays but still funded by taxation even if so called prisoner wages.

The crime rate has soared in recent years with shoplifting going up 20% in one year and yet also at the same time reporting of shoplifting has fallen dramatically so how does that all work out? One in three men in the UK has a criminal record. We have become a moronic idealistic society that has completely lost control in reality yet also a bankrupt country with around 200,000 of debts and liabilities for every single person. The real solutions are unpalatable to many people but the pressure for more realistic solutions is getting greater and greater by the day as the country becomes more anarchic. I've gone through most of my life never having witnessed a shop theft but in the last year I have seen 4; 2 in Iceland, 1 in a Tesco Express and 1 in Greggs. Criminals are everywhere nowadays it seems. I also saw an attempted theft in Tesco where a customer hid some of his shopping in a bag and didn't present it to the cashier so I guess 5 in total, he claimed he forgot but of course why was it in a different bag in the first place. Surely the time of unworkable idealism must come to an end soon? As it stands criminals are the winners they get to do what they want with little chance of being caught and no effective punishment. When we all pity criminals and their plight the crime rate will drop dramatically.

I love video gaming, I really enjoy it and have done from the beginning of video gaming pretty much, back in the days of 8bit computers and consoles. I enjoy it more than listening to music or watching normal television and movies. I guess because its interactive I find it more stimulating. Of course the vast majority of games I'm not interested in. The games I like are only a section of all the games available same as music and movies etc. I'm a huge science fiction fan so love games in that genre. It's cheap entertainment too relatively. You can enjoy gaming on a old pc pulled off a skip to the latest 10 grand pc. You can game at any price point really.
