So when do the insurance company clobber you? I'm guessing at renewal time rather than straight away? I suppose if you had a really bad smash that was your own fault they might revoke insurance there and then?

Sorry if I sound ridiculously ignorant but my licence is clean so far.

Hang on, hang on! Has he actually got the ticket yet? Should we call off the public hanging until he's had it?

I opted for a speed awareness course when I got snapped (34 in a 30). The course was for drivers from all around Worcestershire and while we were chatting away it became apparent that 6 out of the 25 of us had all need done by the same camera. Then this year all the 30 signs were taken away and the limit went up to 40. So while I accept I was breaking the (then) speed limit it looks like I was driving safely after all.

He will get cheaper but would guess he will be forced to fit a black box recorder thing
I think with young drivers they must inform immediately of any points, it will probably be in the terms and conditions to cancel policy without refund.
Cancelled policy with no refund? Cripes! I guess it also goes on the insurance database that you got it cancelled, so if you ring another company they know all about it.

As for the black box GPS things with accelerometers and whatever other instrumentation, I'd very much like to see those fitted to all taxis.
I know someone who's son had a blackbox fitted for the first year - after about 8 months he found another insurance company that would cover him with no blackbox, so he changed at a cost of about £1100 for the new policy. After three days (I kid you not) he rolled his car, he was uninjured and apart from a hole in a hedge there was no other damage. But his car was a write-off, it was a third party insurance so complete loss on the car, the insurance company immediately cancelled the policy without refund.
Kids eh...............give em a license and they think they have been driving 30 odd years like us old uns..........my first car was 56bhp and that was good back then, nowadays my car is 225bhp.............and anyone can buy it

There's a power limit for some motorcyclists. I've never understood why a similar limit wasn't brought in for car drivers at the same time.

They should do, any 17 yr old who has passed their test can drive a Corsa to a Mitsubishi EVO7 so long as its insured...........even any Ferrari or Lambo, if its insured and they are covered, the buggers can drive

Eh??? I don't think so. Vexatious and massively inflated PI claims for whip lash is wot has done it made by unscrupulous claims companies, crooked lawyers and doctors has meant defrauding insurers is a HUGE industry NOT Matt getting a speeding ticket! Wake up and smell the coffee!

Would agree with a lot of this, but the hire car for repair time is a massive racket which the insurance co's all shaft each other with using the innocent victims of other peoples errors as unwitting pawns.

I have just done a quote with my insurance company and included 3 points for speeding. My original quote (what I paid for this year) was £1200. A year on and it will be £710. So clearly the points dont have that much affect on things if my insurance company still come out the cheapest.
