I can see a Bafta with your name on it.

A good video. It seems that some road users and pedestrians have lost all common sense where roads are involved. I have come across pedestrians who blindly step out in front of you whilst you are driving and a cyclist who was really lucky when he leapt off a pavement on a left hand bend and cycled towards me on my side of the road before swerving away.

The older pedestrians tend to be fine imo. There has been a problem with people under 30 where the green cross code is no longer seen as a thing. One i didnt catch on camera was a guy who blundered out from behind a bus and almost into the side of me (if I'd have been in the door zone we'd have met). He then threw up his hands in disgust that I was even there, haha!

On a serious note we've had several incidents down here of people who just walk in front of buses and get wiped out. 2-3 a year iirc.

Somebody I know walked out in front of a bus and it hit her. It knocked her off her feet but the driver had quick reactions and managed to stop without running over her.
Sounds like a very lucky lady!

Excellent stuff, Downfader!
As another Southampton cyclist I recognise most of the roads in the video, and much of the behaviour is all too familiar, including in the Daily Echo comment pages.
If you really do want to see people cycling on the pavement though, try Shirley Road  .

I agree. It happens down there. Also along Portswood high street. Pretty much non-existent elsewhere for the majority of riders. With Shirley Road I know from talking to my Polish friends that some of those riders are Polish.. I do wonder if they have different rules there or if they've taken some idiot driver's comment as gospel (I've had them lean across the passenger and shout to get on the pavement LOL)

wasn't going to like this at first as i thought it was just you talking to yourself...but then I realised what it was about (sorry long day).

good work

I talk to myself quite often

Yes, that's my impression too - both about many of the pavement cyclists there and the different rules. I was waiting on my bike at a red light at a pelican crossing in Shirley when a left-hand drive car drew up behind me and the driver asked, in a puzzled fashion and in what sounded like a Polish accent, why I'd stopped. I pointed out the red light and they said "But you don't have a motor". At this point the light changed so we didn't have a chance to pursue the discussion.

Southampton's certainly no cycling city! Despite being so close, I've only ever ridden through Scum twice and I certainly had my game face on. The irony is that away from the city, I think Hampshire is one of the more comfortable places to ride on the roads, even in (dare I say it) places like Basingstoke. I certainly notice the attitude of drivers go down the pan if I cross the border into Surrey. And Wiltshire is the land of the undead. Take a crucifix.
