In that case, I've been getting old for nearly 50 years.

Been short sighted and worn glasses since I was eleven (should have been earlier but I used to get bored when we had our eyes tested at school and had memorised the sight chart by the time it was my turn to be tested)
Now my reading vision has also started to go and I need an extra large handbag to carry around all the pairs of glasses I now need!
Actually, I manage a lot of the time without my glasses - your eyes soon adjust
I had the problem of having to carry reading glasses with me too - and having pairs in the car, the saddle pack, the garage and every room in the house (All pound shop specials) because I could never remember to take them with me or even where I'd left them. Best thing I ever did was get some variafocals last year, I took to then straight away and it was a massive transformation.

Interestingly, children who wear glasses often have a rapid deterioration of their eyes in late teens, early twenties before sight loss/distortion levels level off and become much more gradual, sometimes even a slight spike and improvement before eventual decline.
