She picks the right moment, pal.

When you wrestle with YOUR Marathon + ses, check that the teensy weensy arrow with the word 'DRIVE' alongside it, is facing forwards.

Having got my 1st puncture for ages one day this week, the Fairy has now moved on to my car tyres giving me a nice flat today(huge nail) only noticed it after I'd loaded bike in it for todays ride, which I then missed

Hope she buggers off and picks on somebody else for a bit now

Maybe it's time to get the hybrid out for winter and leave it to the M+ (in 28's Martin) to foil her.

On the advice of fellow parishioners, I ordered a couple of Marathon Plus tyres this afternoon from an on-line retailer...

Having done so, I set out for a ride down the Thames Path in the darkness. Eight miles out, I met the Fairy for the fourth time in seven days. I swear the little minx is stalking me. Rummaging around in the pannier, I realised I had all the needful, except my pump. Lady slowmotion was very understanding when I phoned, and came to the rescue.

I must have done something terrible in a previous existence.

Well I put 100 miles into my Ultremo R's yesterday. All I can say is I've never had a tyre before that made so much difference. They started off feeling a little bit slow but certainly picked up. And as for grip, they are as grippy as a very grippy thing dipped in glue. Quite weird as there is absolutely no tread on them at all but never once felt the bike move from it's line even in the wet.

Don't worry. It's a last hurrah for the faerie. You will soon forget all about p*nct*re delays.

Not quite the last hurrah though! Yesterday evening I was taking the bike out of the office to ride home and looked down to see that the minx had visited me again. I eventually found a tiny bit of something sharp, patched the hole and rode home.

The Marathon Pluses arrived today and I fitted them this morning using twenty releasable cable ties and a load of talc. Getting the last ten inches on the rim required some very careful use of the tyre levers. I have fabric rim tape and it was hard to slide the slack of the tyre round the rim. The second tyre took 30 minutes but I really wouldn't fancy attempting a repair out on the road. Do they become more pliable with use?

BTW, my finger tips hurt like crazy after all the manipulation.

"MTFU" Martin - translated means 'Muscle The Fingers Up' Cable ties? :headshake:
Only joking, well done, but did you make sure the little, almost invisible arrow is pointing in the 'drive' direction? Hope so...

Funnily enough, Clarion, I have a VAR, and they are undoubtedly useful, but the only time I tried to gently prise a tyre over a rim, it went all bendy on me...a bit like my legs

Keep the tyre pressure 'up' too Martin - every little helps.

Well it looks like the Ultremos have lasted 200 miles and that's about it....:eek:. They are great looking tyres and the grip is fantastic however they cut up really badly. No puncture but there is one hole in each tyre where I can see through to the underlying layer. Has anyone else had this? I'm not confident riding any kind of distance on them but if other people have experienced the cutting up and then got many more miles out of the tyre, let me know and I may keep them.

Considering going for gatorskins now instead....

Is your tyre pressure up around 100psi? Even with "bombproof" tyres you should still try and avoid piles of debris imo.
