Well I was just pootling along at about 20mph with a nice tailwind. I had a stream of cars overtaking me on a 30mph road. There was no parked cars or pinch points to avoid on the section of road I was on, so everything was normal. The traffic was quite busy.
Then I saw what I though was either a sign or a bag at the edge of the pavement. As I got closer, I realised it was a kid. I immediately signalled to the car behind the I was moving out and took primary. The child actually had his feet hanging over the kerb.
I took a charp left hand turn at the next junction and asked the kid if I could speak to his parents.
He led me to his house and I had a little chat with his mother about the dangers of being so close to the road.
She was under the beleif that as she had instructed her son not to go over a wall adjacent to the pavement, that he would abide by that rule at all times.
She had a daughter who was leaning on the wall at the time as well (one year older than the boy). Both kids were aged about 4/5.
She thanked me for letting her know and I went on my way.
I felt really pleased with myself after that as I knew that I had possibly saved that kids life as one stumble and he was in the road.
