What is it with the roads between 9am-10am?

Was coming in to work late today (flexitime, wanted more sleep), and have noticed I get more 'incidents' during these periods in one journey than I get in a month of regular rush hour.

1. Had a van overtake through me as I (and he) changed lane (with indication) to avoid parked cars. No holding back to let me in first, just accelerated close pass to get past me.

2. Worst one I've had in over a year - this one got me REALLY angry as I feel it had to be a totally deliberate act to shoot me up just to give the driver a laugh or ego boost. Riding along here:

Heading West (other side of the road the photo is taken from, heading the direction the camera is facing)
Not sure if you can tell from this pic but the road is PLENTY wide enough for a car to pass a cyclist safely without even having to pull out very far, in fact if you just sat in the middle of the lane I'd feel reasonably comfortable for you to overtake.
**** in a silver Merc zips past me WAY to the left, virtually touching me, then pulls out again.
Too freaked out to get his plate before he's gone. All I remember is it began with A and ended XL.

3. Then had 'DC Fencing' van overtake me through a pinch point. Would give them a bell, but there appears to be more than one DC Fencing in the area. Gah.

I need a camera ... or to be able to get to sleep earlier

By some peoples logic wearing a camera will increase such incidents, some how .

I also find when commuting that drivers behaviour varies at different times of the day, the earlier I am on my bike the more considerate are the other road users. Maybe because there is less traffic people are less stressed.

Having a camera won't stop them happening and neither will reporting them. But it will make you feel better. My muvi may be up for sale in a few weeks.

I start my commute at 5:50am for that precise reason, there are less idiots on the road. I'm good at getting up in the morning though. It's the evening that do my head in - If I leave at my normal time of 4pm, I find that the school runs are still in full flow, and everyone's in a rush to get home. Leave it until 4:30-5pm and although it's more into rush hour, I get less events (near misses).

Saying all that, some days you just get the idiots out.

Now you wonder why I "love" my 5am starts?

Just done 7 days and most of them I was up at half two or half three...still I missed the riff-raff

Don't get me wrong I don't find most of the cyclists or peds too bad but sometimes it's like mad max with the tin boxes.

I left home at 330am this morning but doing 7 days I was kind of getting used to it...Shame I do shifts.

I even swapped a 9am start for a 6am start today.

Interesting thing about early moroning commutes is it's like bandit country and more cars tend to not bother stopping at the reds...also a load of ninja cyclists have been spotted mainly with no lights...

The p155h£ads were also out later in the week.

It'll also help you explain the situation to others and help glean their opinions. I for one cant figure out what is going on in option 2 that you describe...sorry, I've read it like 5 times and everything......you are riding up the wrong side of the road side , (other side that the photo is taken from?)but in the direction the camera is facing ? when a something does something then pulls out and does it again, or never...

sorry i know I’m missing it but i cant work it out, this is when a cam can help you to put it behind you.

but mostly it allows confidence that , if required, your ride is on record.

A car passed me on my side of the road, going in the same direction as me, and I believed did so deliberately close - they pulled back out to a more sensible road position after they passed.

No, I'm on the correct side of the road, which happens to be the other side of the road to the google camera.

Ah now I get it, like a swerve towards you as he/she went past.

I have to say that, on both chitty or on the loud Bike, i just keep forgetting to carry the cam and havent filmed any "on road"footage for weeks and weeks.

so maybe, after all said and done, they are just a "fancy"
