I have a couple of junctions on one stretch of road that are like that - 30 easy on the bike - If it's too close to brake, a switch to the middle and overtake, then shout 'oi look where you are going' through the drivers window as I pass.

Hey (brianT)-you have the same bike as me :becool:
Which one? Both cracking rides, whatever. I've managed to get them set up as near identical as possible, and get a real buzz whichever I'm riding.

Not a manoeuvre I'd advocate if there's any oncoming traffic (as I'm sure you wouldn't!) - my preferred one is to briefly tailgate the offending car dead centre and to stare intently at the rear view mirror, maybe miming spectacles. Then I stay right behind the car for as long as I can. It surprises them when I do manage to stay right there for some distance - it's my little bit of driver education: "See, bikes can go as fast as cars!"

Out of interest, what sort of lighting arrangement do you have? Theory says that it is easier to judge the speed of a vehicle at night when it has two solid lights mounted as far away from each other as possible (as in a car), as the lights appear to get further away the closer they get to you - Of course none of this helps if they don't look.

FTFY

But don't you realise that you "came out of nowhere" riding "like a bat out of hell"

*standard response when faced with a cyclist exceeding 7mph
looking like a firey dragon with horns!
Oh dear Mr ambulance man it appeared to be a cyclist covered in luminous Lycra and duracell accouterments that was actually following legal limits and spending bucket loads of cash on saving the planet from implosion!

Don't they get further away as they come closer to you :S
