I went for a gentle short ride today...

... fifteen or so kilometres aboard my cargo bike.

Two close passes. Honked at twice. Witnessed one rtc*, I rode on, chuckling mirthlessly, one illegal and dangerous U-turn, a general contempt for the 20mph and 30mph limits in the town, and numerous drivers utterly nonplussed by the encounter with a cyclist on the roads of a small market town on a bank holiday.

Driving standards haven't improved since I last rode here.

*no doubt a Merc ramming a Civic from behind on the entry to a roundabout will result, in the minds of the drivers concerned, in blame being placed on the nearby cyclist.

I was out for a ride this morning, and became aware of a truck behind me waiting to pass. Being the considerate sort, I moved onto the verge and let him past. He drove on with no attempt to thank me, and the then next two cars to pass decided to inconvenience themselves by slowing next to me, lowering their passenger windows and shouting at me something about a cycle lane.
There was a bumpy, glass strewn pavement on the other side of the road with some bicycles painted on with white paint, but it wasn't really suitable for my purposes. Sadly they didn't seem to want to discuss it further, instead racing off leaving me in a cloud of gravel and fumes.
I was a bit peeved, but I soon turned off onto a quieter road and was rewarded by the sounds of skylarks high above - wonderful. I doubt the two drivers were having as good a morning as me.
I love cycling.

We all know it so well,
i now use my go pro camera on my cycle helmet and it stands out a mile.
drivers seem to give me, a lot more space when passing, even if its not turn on,lol
the steps we need to take to keep safe.

Yesterday, I pulled to the side of a quiet country lane to let an oncoming, stunning blonde woman in a Mercedes convertible pass. She waved and said thanks. ^_^

Not always. I enjoy driving; is there anything wrong with that?
I enjoy driving*

*in the right car, with the right person in the passenger seat, at the right time, on the right roads. This equates to almost never in my normal driving experience in SE England.

Gosh, you are grumpy aren't you?
I went for a little ride this morning; unusually, I didn't have a single close pass the whole way round! We did encounter a couple of very grumpy cyclists who didn't acknowledge our cheery waves though, miserable buggers

I'll happy acknowledge a cheery wave, but in these parts serious cyclists don't wave to middle-aged men on cargo bikes.

Move North young man, move North. Early in the morning you've the whole of Lancashire, Yorkshire and Northumberland to be going at; look on your map at the A686 from Penrith to Hexham; I used to love riding that on my motorbike.

Indeed. And if only. West has its moments too, some delightful roads in Wales.
