A side effect of anti epilepsy drugs is pain relief especially for neuropathy. Bloody GP wants to put me on Gabapentin or Pregablin. No ta I don't have epilepsy and this stuff is like getting a frontal lobotomy.

I know people who take Lyrica (pregabalin) for nerve pain/damage and it actually enables them to function in their daily lives. If you get the side effects, fair enough

Just because it was initially developed for epilepsy, doesn't mean it doesn't have other benefits for other conditions (same with other drugs - Viagra, aspirin, beta blockers, diuretics)

They just don't agree with me and I have to be mentally alert for riding and my job. Gabapentin has some nasty side effects

My dog has gabapentin for his bad arthritis and he seems fine, I nearly thought of asking for that for my back but on second thoughts maybe not.

I'm back on it again - dr put me on gabapentin, consultant changed it to pregabalin, dr wants to change me over to amitriptyline ... Will wait till I see the consultant again on that one. It certainly helps me luckily and most days I'm with it enough to know what is going on (today had been the exception), but I'm also on codeine and morphine plus paracetamol.

My consultant tells me pregabalin is the better one of the 2 to be on if you need to be on either of them.

Ask your hospital consultant to prescribe it. Or say you can't tolerate the others, they won't prescribe if known side effects

I've had the first two previously and binned the Pregablin before trying them with my shoulder a few years back. There are a couple of common side effects that won't help my current 'bearing issues' ahem.
