Stick to the main roads.

Stick to the main roads, you are not far south of my current location its chilly but you'll be fine its still a few degrees above freezing. Just remember to be smooth, anticipating things earlier so you gradually slow down rather than having to rake hard.

do you have a car? If so, take it and you will ride another day.

Not much help if the OP's already at work.

Take the main roads if you are worried about ice, and take it easy. Don't brake too hard, don't bank into corners too much. Oh and from personal experience I would recommend looking into studded tyres for the future if they will fit your bike

Wasn't too bad in the end. I Just got caught out this morning. Turned off the main road and was confronted with slush. Really want to keep commuting as long as possible but don't want to do myself a mischief. The irony is it was a fantastic morning apart from the ice!

I don't mind it too much in the morning - at least I can see it! It's the journey home I was getting a little worried about. Time to man-up and grow some balls!

I know what you mean, I live quite close to work and will extend my commute in the morning but at this time of year with the recent floods I don't fancy extending it at night ;)

Big man points to the two guys I saw cycling in this morning! I do like the idea of studded tyres though. I have an old mountain bike that never gets used!

Studded tyres weren't much use this morning. I was on a 'bent wearing these ITS Mk2s this morning but didn't get to S' Walden, I went through Balsham & Fulborn.

rather icy here as well. ice (or icy mud) just about all the way on my cycle to the physio... Cut it short at 21 miles (usually 30 miles round trip - prefer not to do a certain dangerous junction, but today just got off and walked the bike across the road, safer that way)... My OH though got home after dark and said the only ice he found was on our lane - strange how going one way can be so totally different to another, opposite direction route. both still on our road bikes with 25c tyres, both much slower than normal but both arrived without issue, but we will see what tomorrow brings, literally, forecaste is for snow during my commute time, but OH should get to work before it arrives and it should leave again quite quickly... might need to get N+1 for both of us (n=2 each currently!) but car needs repairing first  ironically it is currently off the road each time the weather freezes so bikes become our only transport in icy/snowy weather!
