It's not the rudest thig I've heard today but the fact she went to the newspapers about it, most liekly in an attempt to
punsih the checkout girl means that people are taking exception to it

Clarke must have the self awareness of a rock and the hide of a Rhineceros. How she has the cheek to to complain about the check out girl is beyond me.

No doubt she had to sèarch her bag for her purse as well

It amazes me at work how many people when in the middle of a consultation with a doctor or nurse answer their phone if it rings.

Really bad manners.

from how I read the story the customer wasn't given the option to stop her call and was stopped before loading her shopping on to the till, so for all we know she might have stopped the call smiled said hello, wished the checkout person well, whatever but these options were removed,
now I'm all for politeness and manners especially when dealing people working in the service industry and I for one would never use my phone when dealing with anyone but it has to work both ways I not sure I agree that the checkout person had the right to try and humiliate another person irrespective of the reason..

Having peered here http://www.newsshopper.co.uk/news/1...ford_Sainsbury___s_checkout_mobile_phone_ban/

Apparently she had

She told News Shopper: "I was standing at the foot of the till waiting to bag my shopping up, yet the lady on the checkout was just staring at me, when I stopped my conversation and said: ‘Is everything ok?’
"‘She said: ‘I will not check your shopping out until you get off your mobile phone’.
"‘I ended my call swiftly, and said to the lady on the checkout: ‘Apologies, I didn’t realise that it was Sainsbury’s policy that you are unable to use your phone at the checkout’, and she said ‘Well you learn something new every day’."

I have regular site meetings and I am always annoyed by those who not only take calls in the meeting but then start conversations. I have in the past asked someone to repeat something that I did hear with the comment "im sorry but I missed that" indicating the nobber on the phone. If I am expecting an important call I will let people know in advance and leave the meeting to take the call.

And when you are having a chat with someone, they answer their phone and have a conversation. What a splendid way to show how unimportant you are to them compared to the person on the other end of the phone!

The Telegraph is about the same too, but, they extended it there to not only needing to lose weight but also get a decent haircut & use less make up

Oh & they too have a poll

Looking at the Telegraph and Daily Fail and I am nicely surprised that the polls are all highly in favour of this woman being very rude.

There was a comment posted that did make me laugh:

"I was once returning from a holiday and was queuing at the check-in desk. In front of me was a young woman who had been on her phone for what seemed like forever. As she got to the front of the queue she was struggling to lift her overly heavy suitcase onto the conveyor whilst continuing her phone conversation. Standing next to the desk was an airport security guard and she glared at him and demanded that he helped her. he took her phone off her. Smart move! "

Estate agent in rude shocker... What a horrid women, its the same as people getting on buses talking on mobiles and then fumble around their bags with one hand holding up the bus. Whipping is too good for them types.

That said, I shop in Sainsburys and I once heard a Sales assistant use the F word about a customer, the customer heard insult and it went mental, the SA denied at first and then claimed it was not aimed at anyone and then apologised whilst customer got on her high horse and wanted management involved, she still works there.

M&S food shop in Mootown, my mum worked there and a wealth codger reversed her car into a bollard, she complained that it shouldnt have been there and they not only paid for the car repair but gave her £500 in vouncher, now if it had been a pleb they would have been laughed out of the shop.
