Despair away, it is all the niggly things that come together in the end to make one big problem.
Small erosions over time can create a bigger unexpected problem later on, unless you deal with the small things as well as keeping an eye on the bigger picture.

better get a lynch mob together... show them rude ignorant mobile phone users in supermarkets who's the boss eh?

I think I must be rural-fied or something a trip to the shops usually means a conversation with the cashier and at a minimum Hello, Thank you & goodbye. I even make the small people say hello & thank you & goodbye.
I try to do this in London. Doesn't always work but SWMBO is always surprised by how many people say hello to me on the street.

I have along list of horrible customers I would prefer not to have to deal with at work but unfortunately I am paid to deal with them. Customers pay the wages in any business. It is a very different matter to an employee being rude to a customer.

Yes, as much I don't like the customer's rude behaviour and as much as I'd like everybody to be polite to others serving them, unfortunately the employee can't demand that politeness is reciprocated, only hope that it will be.

I work in a supermarket and have done for over 5 years. For 4.5 I worked as a checkout assistant in Sainsbury. Customers come in all shapes, sizes, colours, genders and attitudes. Whilst it is sometimes frustrating dealing with a customer on the phone, the quicker you serve them, the faster they are gone from your till. It would be quite a game scanning at your fastest rate and watching the one handed customer try to keep up.

However, they are not the worst customers. I have said hello to customers to be completely ignored, not a word said to me. I am also often treated as dumb, yet I have a degree from UMIST, and have also completed 2/3 of a degree from the Open University. A significant number of colleagues also have good educations. We sometimes choose to work in retail for all sorts of reasons. Mine is depression and the shop is a fun place to work.

However the worst customer was one I never met. I am transgendered and was working in Sainsbury for the 2 years or so before I was allowed my surgery. One elderly female customer went to one of my supervisors to ask "why do you employ a thing like that?"
