You may have guessed my interest in your situation by now accy but I think it is important to move ahead rather than let these problems shut you down. Riding is important to me and I try not to let anything get in the way of that and I think you should do the same.

If you have loss of vision, maybe a tandem could be beneficial? I know of several sight impaired people that have awesome rides with a little help from their friends.

Agreed. I can't remember their names * but there's a very quick tandem doing the audax curcuit with a blind/partially sighted rider as the stoker.

* I'm embarrassed since I sat with them in the cafe at Brid on my 600k.

Funnily enough before i lost my right eye sight i thought about volunteering to tandem ride with a blind person, If i remember the nearest place to me was a group in Bury that did the tandem rides.

I've been awake since 7 o clock. I can't lie on my side as my thigh hurts like biilyo!
I've also been thinking about my decision to quit road cycling. Maybe i was a little too hasty but i'm definitely giving up those 23mm and 25mm tyres! Will i still be classed as a roadie on 32mm tyres though?

If you ride on roads, you are a road cyclist. If you follow a band around and go one two three into a microphone you are a roadie ;)

You can always put slicker tyres on a cx style bike

Why does it matter, what you are classed as?

And ouch to your thigh!

I have several bikes, but my go to bike is my 37mm tyred tourer. sheer cycling pleasure offering magic carpet ride.

Who cares about being classed a roadie. As you've gathered cycling becomes more enjoyable when you're comfortable.

I hope you get well soon. Being a roadie isn't the be all and end al of life. You can have just as much fun on a hybrid, going at a slower pace and getting off the beaten track. In fact you may enjoy it even more. Its great to find tracks and traffic free lanes to wander down. It's quieter, and less stressful.
This is very true.
