I'm announcing my retirement from road cycling

A speed bump was my downfall not long ago, it did not help by being on the aero bars and riding fixed. Some nasty road rash and a partially dislocated shoulder will make me pay more attention in the future. Shoulder will hurt for a few weeks yet to keep reminding me.

Go on; you know you want one ....... (It's a Specialized Tricross sport disc, BTW.. My Tricross has lugs for racks, and doubles as a reasonable tourer).

Nice but i like a bit of colour!:okay: Do you not do roads then?

Do you wear sunglasses when out accy?

I used to wear shades most of the time but i tend to use clear safety specs now. I rely more on my helmet's visor than sunglasses to keep the suns glare out.

I do roads when I can't avoid them, which means quite regularly. The Tricross has never been used for cyclocross, but I do find it to be a great all rounder for roads, light off roading, or touring.

Having good sight in only one eye will make judging distance difficult and restrict peripheral vision - glasses will not help, you will also not distinguish between shadows and a hole in the road all you can do is slow down and this is why I was asking about sun glasses. If you increase your cadence in a lower gear you can still get out there if you pick your route and the time of day just be aware of your limitations.

I've been thinking about it for a while. Especially after being hit by a car the other month. I don't think i can judge what's ahead of me like i used to due to losing sight in my right eye. I've been relying on luck and the thought that someone's watching over me to get by this last year or so. It's not all doom and gloom i'll still be on two wheels just a little slower. The amount of cars on the road increasing over the years doesn't help either, Eee! when i were a lad you didn't see one from one day to the next!;)
Well in light of this second post. I have to say I agree.

good luck to you.

There are a stack of ways to thoroughly enjoy riding about the pace without resorting to a road bike, or even a road.

I can't see the logic in that. If I wanted safety I would stop going on roads, not switch the type of bike I'm on.

I did more off-road after my crash, but back on the roadie after a few weeks.

Speedy recovery...

GWS @Accy cyclist!
If you have loss of vision, maybe a tandem could be beneficial? I know of several sight impaired people that have awesome rides with a little help from their friends.
