In Praise of Cardigans

Waistcoats are the greatest thing for middle age spread. When you are thin with a 26ā€ waist🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. They make you look rather portly and 10 years on when you are 36ā€ waist you look the same.šŸ‘šŸ˜Ž

As a young whippersnapper, I had a 28" waist, but 26", blimey - you'd look like a wasp

I have the same trouser size as I did when I was at University in the late 70s

the bit slightly above that point may be a bit larger than it used to be!!!

Thinking about it - I always used to have a suit with a waistcoat - it looked good at the time
but i have not worn one for many years

As I only wear a suit these days for weddings and funerals - probably not worth buying another - the current one will last a LOOOOONG time and hopefully only get used very occaisionally!

I wore a tweed suit to go to pantomime last night. Although for the theatre it should black tie really.

Sadly more funerals than weddings these days, and the long black tie gets a lot more use than my black bow too.

That said, I have taken to wearing a suit if going out for a meal or the theatre, so they are getting a fair bit of use; tweeds or linen according the season.

My very smartest and best fitting suit was a formal pinstripe business suit, which I bought right at the end of the wearing a suit at work era, and in any case I have since retired. It is too austere and formal for social wear, too stripy for funerals and too sombre for weddings so remains pristine along with the two pairs of trousers I bought for extra longevity. It is lovely and fits me perfectly despite being straight off the peg.

I'm still wearing the same pair or Y fronts I had at school.

They'll be due a scrape soon, maybe even a wipe over with a damp cloth.

Does look like a nice cardi - and nice and warm as well

by "slobbing around the house" stuff generally just involves a t-shirt and jeans
SWMBO like the thermostat somewhat higher than I would have it

but then, for many years I had to deal with a weird Alsatian who considered the right and proper way to operate a house involves a patio door that is wide open all day!

My Father always used to say that cardigans were schmoey, that’s probably why I’ve never worn one, I can’t even wear a hoody with a full zip as it has cardigan overtones.

Schmoey !! A new word for me . Even Mr Google doesn't recognise it.
