Terrible post, tedious, boring, clichéd, you name it, it's utterly dreadful and you deserve absolute derision and scorn, NOT praise!

Has anyone else been on Songs of Praise? I was in 1980 as a 10 year-old. However, despite being filmed singing they wanted me to mime it instead and I was dubbed:cry:

And I don't mind being praised, but don't seek it out. Which is probably why I rarely get any

No. But they did film once at Buckfast Abbey and we all watched it on the TV; my Mum and Gran were eager to spot anyone they knew from town. They kept whooping and saying things like "ooh, there's Joan" and "she sitting next to thingabobs missus". I remember it well, because I was about 15 and an hour before I had raided the drinks cabinet and was absolutely smashed. I was trying to watch the TV in an effort to hide my drunkeness, but it was just going around in circles. I was glad when it was over, so I could make an excuse and go for a walk round the block to sober up a bit before tea

There was an episode of Rab C Nesbitt set partially in Buckfast Abbey. Although whether it was actually filmed on location there, I don't know.

Not quite Songs of Praise, I know.

I like praise. Doesn't everyone? It's good to give and receive. Praise, that is, not what you're thinking.

Never liked Songs of Praise though, Harry Secombe ruined it.

Wasn't he the fat one who laughed at everyone else's jokes? (not in Songs of Praise, obv.)

Excellent thread, by the way.

A few years ago now, when Songs Of Praise was broadcast from Wakefield Cathedral, our daughter was on (& heard!), as she was in the Cathedral Choir
(girls have to leave at 18)

It was amusing to see it, as 'Songs Syndrome' took effect, ie; every seat was full, & some standing!
I'd sometimes collect her after Sunday service, & at times, there'd be 20 worshippers!! (including some parents!!)

As An Aside;
Wife was also a Church Warden for a couple of years, as it was far easier/less hassle than coming home, just to go back!!
Due to that, we held the keys to St Marys On The Bridge at times, so I got personal access

Mother-in-law was a volunteer 'welcomer' (hence why her funeral, & the bro-in-laws, were held there)
