Nothing more than a criminal thug, who was up to his fat neck in the expenses scandel who cheated on his wife with his private secretary..

A wholly British concern. No-one else in Europe would mention fraud and adultery in the same breath. If he cheated on his wife then that was his choice; the act in itself has/had no bearing on whether or not he was a good politician.

Not that I've ever bought it (honest!) but The Sun had this little mock-up of JP when he got the Deputy PM job.
I realise it's not relevent to this thread other than it's JP. I thought it was quite good though

It would be if his party campaigned on the issue of family values and personal morality. As far as I can tell, the Labour party didn't, so there is no issue.

Many people have been critical, with some calling it "dangerously slow". A three lane road does not need to be 30 mph, why's it safe to go 50 when there are road works being completed on the motorway?

ever worked on a live motorway ?

I have. its not a nice experience. with a 50 limit the cars generally travel at 70 ish .

hence setting a 30 limit in the hope they only exceed the limit by 20mph.

wouldn't fancy a vehicle colliding with the edge protection and cusing an injury to the workforce. Its a risk that can be reduced quite easily and has a huge benefit for the effort and cost.

the limit will have a duration of 18 months or the duration of the roadworks whichever is shorter. but again a journo won't let facts get in the way of a good lie story.

Also, of course, the speed limit on one bit of road in one city is of limited interest to about 80% of the population.

I agree - and I think average speed cameras are a great idea - especially in long stretches of roadworks like the M25 at the moment.

What gets me, is I'm always being overtaken on these stretches - and I'm sticking to the max speed limit. How come all those people get done for speeding?

It always makes me wonder if average speed cameras are actually turned on or policed?

I invariably get some arse tailgating me on the M25, while I am driving at or near the maximum average speed and with no changing of lanes advised.

the company i work for are doing some works on the M25 at the moment. I was told in December, that 2 managers have been caught by the cameras they installed. Apparently nearly 2000 people have had points applied to their licence since the cameras went live. and not for just exceeding but significantly exceeding the limit.

People are saying that on a road of that type, if people conform to the limit, people are more likely to tail-gate each other, it's natural as people are usually in a hurry to get home. It's not about controlling the car...

People say all sorts of things. That Elvis lives for instance. But what does the evidence say?
