Been chasing a squeak for weeks, happens when out of saddle pulling away, climbing, even light effort. Stem and handlebars off, degreased, reassembled, re-torqued, pedals and cranks off, cleaned, new bottom bracket, new cleats, chased and chased, sometimes it apparently went away, only to come back a day or two later.

Really began to annoy, and affected rides, it's amazing how you start holding back for fear you're doing damage.

Took it to the LBS (Howes in Cambridge), they tried replacement stem and handlebars, no luck, and then they tried front wheel nuts ...

All is now taught, and raring to go, boy the bike is chomping at the bit now ;-)

Feeling a little stupid, front wheel nuts, I mean ....

There really is not substitute for experience.

First place to check when you get a click, squeak or other annoyance is the QRs, I've said it on here a few times I think. But it's usally the back wheel that is the culprit due to all the torque going through.
