Man bags can be very useful but do not forget Rohan and Craghopper shirts which have two decent-sized breast pockets plus a large second-layer breast pocket which can take wallet, passport, boarding cards, mobile phone and baggage tickets — an absolute boon for getting through airport controls. In winter, wear a zip cardigan or you will find your passport trapped under a jumper. Another great strategy is to wear a VOMP — a Vest Of Many Pockets — which is a convenient garment so long as the staff do not insist on you removing it to go through the scanner. Those breast pockets, by the way, are essential for glasses on one side and notebook and pen on the other. After proper pocket planning, man bags take you to the next level, including water and sandwiches.

With the advent of mobile payments it’s now possible for a man to leave home with just house keys and a phone. I do it all the time.

No car keys, reading glasses and or cash just in case the cafe is cash only.

Would be a small rucksack for me too. However, I hear Drago is setting a new trend with his latest purchase..

I used to have a largish man bag for work which Mrs W threw as she said it looked knackered. So I got a smaller one about the size of an IPad but with more volume.
In it goes phone, wallet, reading glasses, sun glasses, car keys, house keys, pen and paper. Would I want all that stuff in my pockets. No thank you.
Last I used it there was also lipstick and dog pooh bags added.
I recently got a larger bag bought by daughter dearest for my birthday which is great for when you are going on a trip.

With the amount of medical crap I need to carry around I used to use an everyday black rucksack that I usually use for work. It was boring and too big. Really needed a "man-bag". hunted high and low for the right size and finally got one from Amazon made of canvas. Really useful size.

I was then looking for a smarter version for those more special occasions and always wanted a Leather bag, so when on hols in Dartmouth came across a Leather Bag Shop. They only sold bags made of leather, so I treated myself to one of these. Cost more than I wanted but...:

I have a few Rohan shirts and also a Rohan man bag. It's quite insubstantial in that it's made from a sort of " ballistic nylon " and has no structure, but it is very Tardis like. It wasn’t expensive so it's quite handy for leaving in pubs necessitating a return visit to collect ( and while I'm there I suppose I may as well have a pint ) 😁

@PeteXXX What do you carry in your bag?

I have a back pack that I have been using for years if I need more than I can fit into pockets

Generally that means I am going somewhere that needs stuff like a laptop
but I still use it on holiday and for days out and stuff like that

never thought of it as a man bag

Same here, but I need to add my reading glasses.
Paid for what I needed with my watch so nothing to carry on the way there.
A bag for life, in case of impulse purchases in the reduced section?
my wife stole the bag.
Yeah, I was going to say, I'm a woman, got a couple of similar bags.
I thought "man bags" were the courier style over the shoulder ones.

I saw a programme some years ago where they were talking to a clothes designer about things like pockets

The person they were talking to said that they had tried selling women's clothes designed to take the sort of stuff men carry in their pockets

and the women wouldn;t buy then as it spoiled the lines of the clothes

and they tried selling men's trousers with no room for wallets and the like
and men wouldn;t buy them

whether this is a case of priorities and natural instincts of the average man
or just what we are brought up to use by society etc
is a matter of opinion and they didn;t go into it

Pockets were invented so men did not have to carry bags.

And pockets wear out if you are continually putting change etc. in them. I first got a "man-bag" because I was fed up of holes in my pockets, and have regularly carried one now for over 40 years. the one I currently carry has lasted for about 10 years so far, and showing little sign of wear.

I do still usually put my phone and car keys in my pocket, but rarely anything else.

I’m a convert to the man bags but only for holidays. If your in a city known for pickpockets it’s much more convenient and safer having your phone/money in front of you
