I crashed my bike earlier this week (no 3rd parties involved) and snapped the mech hanger. Took it to my LBS for repair, only for them to point out that I've bent the frame at the drop-outs, necessitating a new frame.

Thankfully I took out an insurance policy last year with British Cycling, so I'm covered.

I just wondered if anyone else has had to make a similar claim, and how long it took to sort out? Also, do you think they'll pay to rebuild the bike onto a replacement frame or just replace the bike?

Cheers.

Does your insurance cover you for an accident even if it is your fault? How much is it per year? Does it have and excess?

It's £118 per year I think (haven't got my docs to hand). Excess is £100. I only got it because my bike wasn't covered for theft on my home insurance, due to being too expensive. The accidental damage cover is a surprise and welcome bonus.

Wow that's totally worth it. Let us know how you get on with your claim..

Will do.

I checked before and it's £108 per year. I don't suppose they'd get that many claims for accidental damage. Judging by the experience of my friends, it's pretty rare for someone to write their frame off in an accident involving no 3rd parrty, and with £100 excess, it wouldn't be worth claiming for most normal components.
