Hi there

I've got 7 bikes in total including 2 high end Bianchi bikes, both of which cost just under £5k when purchased. Can anyone recommend insurance for theft, accidental damage, etc.

Thanks in advance

I have always found that by picking the right household insurance that the cost is always significantly lower than specialised cycle insurance.

It’s going to cost a chunk as 5k is going to put into named item territory. I have a premium Aviva Plus policy which is unlimited cover at home (as long as secured) but only 2.5k away from home. Maybe try an Insurance broker?
I wouldn’t bother trying to buy a policy online, phone the providers direct

If you want accidental damage (eg while riding) it’ll have to be a specialist bike policy . Last time I looked at those, annual premiums around 10% of the bike values.
Obviously your postcode will have an impact on cost.

People seem to rate Bikmo if you’re looking for a quote.

I think British Cycling do some discounts for members through their provider if you are a member

Yep, Home Insurance.

I've currently got everything insured with Admiral, you list the bikes on the insurance and there's no real uplift in cost. They're annoying though as you have to pay £20 to make any changes to the policy which really irritates me.

Any limit on the value of the bike before they do charge more ?

This is what is covered and what is not covered via my home insurance. I have specified all my 7 bikes:

What we cover:
Accidental loss or damage to your bicycles which are owned by your family or are your family’s responsibility under contract, for example, if you hire a bicycle. The cover applies: • anywhere within the British Isles; and • worldwide for up to 90 days in any insurance period while in the possession of any of your family. The most we’ll pay is the bicycles limit shown on your Policy Schedule

What we don't cover:
The policy excess shown on your Policy Schedule. Loss or damage to any bicycle in your home while your home is unoccupied. Loss or damage to any bicycle in your home caused by: • theft or attempted theft • malicious damage or vandalism while your home is lent, let or sublet to anyone other than your family – unless force and violence has been used to get into or out of your home. Theft of any bicycle left unattended in a public place – unless the bicycle is locked to an object that cannot be moved or locked inside or to a motor vehicle.

So the bikes aren't covered for theft from home...that seems odd for a home contents policy. I'd ring them to clarify everything

It's not well-worded, but I THINK it is trying to say that the house needs to be securely locked. If a burglar walks in through an unlocked door or climbs through an open window, or if you invite people in and they steal stuff, the insurance cover is void. If they smash a window, kick the door down, or beat you up when you open the door to them, you ARE insured?

The trouble with that is crooks have ways of getting in without causing obvious damage so insurers assume that you didn't lock the door. For example, in West Yorkshire crooks have got rather good at using 'bump keys', which leaves no evidence of criminality.
