I have mentioned this site on here before. It's a great site about women in sport, often not mainstream sport but endurance type events.

It covers so many amazing female athletes - I find it very inspiring. My favourite ones are the woman who rowed the Atlantic on four days notice, and the girl who survived a shipwreck by swimming a few miles to an island, and now she's a triathlon champ. Here are some of the biking ones:

Blue plaque unveiled for her

a write up when she passed away in 2023

she still holds 4 "place to place" RRA she set in the 1950's. What a lady!

"Chapeau!" to those ladies, especially those seen to be breaking (what are possibly?) cultural taboos?

As for the famous ones;
Val Rushworth (contemporary of BB) lived in the same village as me, when she married Alan Rainbow
Beryl Burton, I used to run with her nephew (her brothers son), before he emigrated, & sure that Denise (BBs daughter) picked him up once?

With Val in mind, another rather famous cyclist grew up in the same village as I did (quite a few years earlier)
I knew his dad & sister, a family by the surname of Hoban...

On the male side, Alistair, the father of one of the present GB track team (Ollie Wood) was in my year at secondary school, & was a damned good 'schoolboy racer'

Those photos were taken near me. There are lots of cyclists in the B12/13/14 areas. School Rd in Kings Heath has a steady stream of cyclists taking their kids to school in the morning, probably because it's been partially blocked to motor vehicles.
