Totting up hits is a bizarre way to look at the stats in any event, if you want to get really pedantic about it. Reason being that most ordinary people think that a hit is when you visit a page, but each page is comprised of many (possibly thousands) of seperate individual elements which are all individually fetched from the server and then collated into the one single page you actually read. Take for instance the Daily Fail where they use a very long page which comprises of 200-odd images, not to mention paragraphs, headlines, interstitial adverts referring to 3rd party sites, ad stats etc… you could easily get over a thousand hits on one page.

Symptomatic of some deeper problem in the work environment, that's what
Well, the only thing that changed was the introduction of the internet.

My employer does not mind how much time i spend on the web.As long as the cleaning is done, the ironing is done, the garden is tidy. The washing up is done and her tea is ready by 18-00 hrs each night.I don't normally finish work till about 19-30 each night, when the kitchen floor has been cleaned.

The ships I work on have very limited bandwidth which is a sort of self-limiting thing anyway - people tend to give up on heavy content sites. Videos are all blocked, and some forums seem to be too (but not CC).
Shipowners that don't provide some access are now finding it harder to recruit. Facebook and email are important for keeping in touch with family. There is a company policy regarding social media, dunno what it is though as we've been told there is one but can't actually access it on the intranet

No filters at my work. Boss is ok with Internet use as long as it doesn't get in the way of work. Facebook isn't blocked although getting spotted on it isn't advisable.

Here for rides.
Sensible blocking here.

We don't block porn or offensive stuff that is legal. We expect our staff to be adults and behave appropriately in the office, if they can't/don't they face the consequences which start with "Step into my office...."

We block stuff that represents a hazard to our ability to function.

But we log/track everything.

Is this a drawing office or sweatshop?

I take it you also have plans to monitor the length of time each person goes to the toilet.
Gormless comment.

This was a well run, professional, busy, architect's practice with about 30 employees, and I was one of them. None of this was my doing. We were a happy efficient office, with everyone working smoothly and efficiently, without masses of pressure. The internet was made available to everyone at their terminals having previously been only available at a terminal on each floor, and immediately......I mean immediately.......measured time on Autocad dropped by 30%. It wasn't me who measured it, and I had no say in the decisions. I was just one of the guys working away at a computer. Being as I am not stupid, I saw an obvious lesson. Those who aren't seeing the obvious lesson can make whatever ill-informed judgements they like about circumstances they didn't have an involvement with, and their observations will be worth exactly what I have paid for them.

Your 'one computer' plan struck many of us - including me - as overbearing control freakery of the staff.

The proposed working environment reminded me of battery hen call centres in which toilet breaks are monitored - hence my 'gormless' comment.

Stupid or not, I observe it chimes in with your comment about 'measuring time on Autocad', which suggests lack of trust between employee and employer.

So maybe architects are used to being treated as children, in which case they won't take against the single computer.

The only computer access I have at work is a shipment labelling system that belongs to the parcel carrier.

In a previous workplace, I had open internet without adult sites. Nobody cared what I did, so long as deadlines were met. I was at work 12-13 hours a day.

I now have internet access but it's minus adult/social media. I now only work my normal 7-hour day.

Not being able access forums like CC has cut my time at work drastically.
